Question HELP which receiver does pcm 5.1?

Greetings

Hope my question hasn't been answered before(I've looked around but found nothing).

With all these new audio options as one of the strongests reasons why blu is beating hddvd. I am hopeless, I can't seem to find an affordable receiver that would allow me take advantage of these options. The only thing I can find is in the denon receivers the options for dolby truhd y dts-master audio. But nothing about pcm 5.1 or 7.1 in receivers.

Any help?

If the receiver has 5.1 analogs you can get PCM 5.1 that way.

even my 6 year old yamaha does PCM 5.1.

Any receiver that accepts an HDMI connection will work for PCM. Almost all new ones have HDMI.

Not 100%, some just have 'passthrough' with No audio support, it is dumb & pointless.

I haven't seen too many that just do "passthrough", seems kinda of confusing, but I suppose then, any receiver that supports HDMI but doesn't specifically say HDMI Passthrough will work.

My Pioneer VSX-1016TXV does "pass through" now that I know better I have found it to be quite a waste. I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH on the way that has HDMI 1.3, and am quite looking forward to it.

Just get an Onkyo 605 and buy two additional speakers. The back center surround speakers don't do much anyway. I bought two Pioneers for $40 or so on sale.

To the OP. The denon receivers will accept 5.1-7.1 PCM if the have HDMI.

I actually think The Yamaha RX-V661 is a better option than the Onkyo 605... no it does not do onboard decoding of DTS HD or True HD, but you can just decode that in your player anyways. Plus the 661 can post process 5.1 into 7.1 the 605 can't. And the 661 is slightly cheaper. The 805 is a different story.

Red face Pcm 5.1

Okay, here's a REALLY stupid question...

I just got a Panasonic DMP-BD10AK player, and integrated it with my Denon AVR-2806 connected to Monitor Audio Radius 180's (L/R), NHT AudioCenter-1 (C), M&K K7's (LS/RS), and a Klipsch Sub12 (LFE).

I was playing We Are Marshall the other night, and selected Uncompressed 5.1, and noticed the Denon was in PCM mode, so I stopped the movied and selected DD. I didn't listen to see if it was true PCM over Toslink, or if it was actually 5.1 PCM.

From what I understand, on all the pages I have read on the internet about PCM Uncompressed 5.1 on the BD discs, is if I change my connection from Toslink, and use the 5.1 analog outs on the 10AK, to the 5.1 analog in's on the 2806, I should be able to pick up the Uncompress 5.1 in it's true nature, correct if I set the 2806 to Ext. In. for the DVD!?

Also, what is the difference between the PCM Uncompressed 5.1, and the TrueHD that is on some of the BD discs that I have, and which one is prefered!?

Thanx for the help, and sorry if it sounds a bit whacky!

Thanks for the help, but Are you sure ANY denon that has hdmi would be able to do the 5.1 pcm? Now from what I read on denon usa website, only models of 2000 bucks or more can do the dolby truHD and dts -master audio ,right?

Ya but with a 661 you have to turn PLX on every time you turn on the receiver and you have uncheck sound settings in the PS3 because of the way it handles what the PS3 is sending.

I recommend, if you can still get one, a Denon 887/2307 same receiver as I have. The remote sucks but it's the best bang for the buck.

Don't worry about Denon's not doing truehd or dts-ma, the PS3 decodes truehd and sends it as PCM and hopefully soon will do the same for dts-ma.

The 661 automatically switches to IIx when the source has usable SBL and SBR data for 7.1 (or 6.1). My PS3 always stays in PCM setting over HDMI, with all audio settings/codec/frequencies checked on, and the 661 handles everything great. Very happy with it.

correct. All you need are three sets of these cables.
