Default PS3 Help - I think it's dead....kinda

how interesting.....this week ive read about random ps3s having problems....mine joins the party a couple days later.....but its not really "dead" yet....last night it froze during a game and there was no way to turn it off...no controller buttons worked...and the power/reset button on the ps3 didnt work, even when i held it down....so i turned the back switch off.....when i turned it back on, it froze at the sony computer entertainment screen and i knew it wasnt good....so i turned it off, and back on...and it worked......played games and watched movies for a while...shut it down and went to sleep....today when i turned it on, i see the sony computer entertainment screen...and then "cannot start - correct hard disk not found"....great.....try to reset it 20 times and get the same message....so heres my question....obviously my system is fine but its just the hard drive that had an error when i shut the power off....if i go buy a new hard drive....how do i actually get the ps3 OS onto it? i hear about people doing this all the time and i know putting the drive in is easy but i just want to know what i need to do to get the OS running........and as i'm typing this, the ps3 works! lol....something is obviously wrong here though....i'm going to back all my data up before i shut it down....any help is appreciated

Call Sony and let them handle it under warranty instead of doing something that may void you warranty.

Another very rare incident, unfortunate but not likely to happen twice unlike those people on their 7th X-CRAP 360 cause of the RROD, i have only seen my PS3 act up a couple of times but that was isolated to my PS3 freezing when i tried to open the internet browser but it would turn off from the touch button but i haven't had the problem since

I don't think changing the Hard Drive will void your warranty. They even give you instructions how to change the Hard Drive in the Manual for the PS3. I really don't believe they will show you how to do something that will void your warranty. I far as I know, the only way your warranty will be void other than physical damage is if the seal sticker on the side is broken. Hope this helps.

I have had that happen once or twice. It doesnt seem to be a really big deal. Is Sony replacing units that have done this?

The last two threads about people's PS3 conking out had that stupid Mad Catz air flow booster fan or whatever hooked to them. With a failure rate at <1% the coincidence is too great.

You don't have one of those do you????
