This really effects MAG, as the game was an online only shooter, which means once the servers go down, you're stuck with a white elephant. Confrontation, much less so, as I believe that it has LAN play, which means if you have LAN tunnelling software, you can still play online.

However, if you want a SOCOM like experience, I suggest you keep an eye out for H-Hour: World's Elite. Being developed by such talents as David Sears, Creative Director of the first two SOCOM games. They recently got funding (via Kickstarter) to develop a pitch demo that they'll show to publishers in the hopes of getting further funding. It's set for release on the PC and PS4.

But yeah, in short, SOCOM, as an online game franchise, is now dead.
