No 3D listing. This was one for which they said the 3D was outstanding. I read an article which read that some of the theaters weren't showing it correctly or something, and the 3D sucked. Apparently, when it was shown correctly, it was beautiful.

I wondered if Herzog was going to go the '3D only' route. Yes it was beautiful, but not a film a lot of people are going to enjoy once let alone multiple viewings...their loss.

The 3D was well-done, and IMO this is one of the few films where 3D adds something and is even integral to the experience.

Yep - it looks like a 2D/3D 2 pack:

I didn't catch it either.

Even Roger Ebert had to lay off the 3D hate for this one (of course he and Werner are buddies):

This have gotten some really good reviews so I think a blind buy is the right way to go actually!

Cool--It's like "Sanctum" with an actual point!

(Seriously, Herzog has turned his artsy-German talent to some good documentaries, and now that he's discovered 3-D, he's done a better job of giving it industry legitimacy than James Cameron ever did.)

Our local indie-arthouse theater is a college-town hole-in-the-wall (and those are the best kind ), but as such, only had to show a second 2-D only distribution.
Never got around to it in the theaters, as I assumed it might go wide to the 3-D enabled cineplexes, or we'd get the B3D.

(If Wim Wenders' artsy dance film could get a B3D, Herzog's actually good and acclaimed documentary would be a given.)

...In the way of extras, I'm afraid. I just purchased this at HMV here in the UK but haven't got round to watching it yet.

On the back of the box is the following(just below the film's decription): 'Extra Features: Q&A with director Werner Herzog; Theatrical Trailer(info: this is 2D only)' It then says 'Also contains non 3D version of the feature'.

That's it, I'm afraid.

Had a browse at this in HMV today .. I am a little dubious about the 3D quality .. after all it is in a dark cave ... and the director used the off the shelf equipment to shoot it.

I would love to hear when someone has watched this at home.

I do hold out some hope it will be decent.

I must admit that, like steelerik, I had some doubts about this. But, having seen it for myself, I must admit it's the most fascinating documentary--3D or otherwise--I've seen in quite a while. Why this film isn't more widely known is beyond me.

There's plenty of light inside the caves, given that Werner had to use cold light powered by batteries in his belt, that illuminate these wonderful cave paintings(although I would hesitate to call them paintings since most have been created using scratches or charcoal). I particularly liked the way Werner moved the cold light around to simulate the flickering fire the artist must have been used to when the "paintings" were created.

One thing that surprised me was the fact(I hope I'm not spoiling the film for some) that no human bones were found--only animal--implying that the cave didn't house man, it was probably only used as a den for animals. Man must have used it for the paintings as well as "religious"-type ceremonies.

Words fail me in describing what you can see when you study the art that adorn these cave walls. It is truly awesome; and to think man was virtually in his infancy when they were created. There are also examples of perspective--another unknown, at least as far as primitive man was concerned.

Get this--I promise you'll not regret it.

That's my two pence worth.

John.

It was playing at my nearby theater, but it was the 2D version. I really wanted to see it in 3d so I passed (I'm a big Herzog fan too) .
