Default Your thoughts on "The Office (US)"

I love The Office. It's been my favorite show for a long time now, and I own season three (the best season) on DVD. However, I feel like the show has really decreased in quality, and it especially shows in season eight.

Robert California doesn't add much, even though he is a cool character. I wish that Jim had been the new manager after Michael left; I honestly think they just put Andy in the chair so the show could still be pretty funny.

IMHO, too much of the season's first half was about Andy taking the office ensemble various places, like a garden party, Gettysburg, a tattoo shop, trivia night, etc. I wished there was much more time spent in office environments, like "The List" and "Special Project" (two episodes I loved).

What are your thoughts? Have you noticed that while this show is still kind of funny and entertaining, that its recent seasons have not been as good as seasons like three?

I think this thread should probably be in the telivision section of the forum but I will go ahead and voice my opinion. I love the first 6 seasons of the show the quality when down around season 6 for me, but there was still some funny moments. Since Michael left there really hasn't been any moments that made me lol. I also miss the realistic documentery vibe the show used to have like the UK version. I feel like they have comepletely abaonded the realism in favor of more traditional sitcom humor. Which is a shame, the thing I liked about both versions was the akward realism factor. It was so different and refreshing.

Still waiting on seasons 1-4. I mean what's taking so long? As for the show I tried to give it a shot without Steve, and it was just....boring. No way I'm buying season 8.

Great show, but its been such a drag since Carrell left.

I own seasons 1-8 on DVD (no need to upgrade to blu on these for me ever)... and that's probably where I'm stopping, season 8 is technically it as far as The Office purchases go.

The show really took a turn for the worst in - maybe season 5? Once Dwight stopped being a major butt-kisser to Michael the entire character of Dwight changed into a much more unlikeable character. I miss the old Dwight. Jim is still as boring as ever... Angela turned into a dumb slut with the whole Andy/Dwight triangle. And there has been a few attempts to bring in new characters that just end up flopping after 1 or 2 episodes. These are my only real gripes with how the show has slowly progressed worse and worse as the writers have obviously run out of ideas.

BTW, I think Robert California actually added the only real laughs and excitement out of last season.

I wouldn't say only but yeah, he was a great. On the surface he seemed really cartoonish and over the top but in reality it was a very dry, witty character very reminiscent of the early seasons.

And James Spader gave it the perfect deadpan delivery.

Wasn't a fan of Robert California, nor the last season in general (it had its moments), but pretty much every season with Steve Carell (except for maybe the first) was some of my all-time favorite television. I'll be quoting this show for a very long time. Now the show is sliding down a vertical slope, not a steep one. Dwight leaving for his own show, Kelly gone to Fox for a new series. A figurative fork can officially be stuck in this one. Sad to see this happen, because I didn't get into the show until it was vindicated, and started airing on Fox. So I saw maybe three seasons in their original airings on NBC. I would've liked to see more. Still, what I've seen is in my top 5 favorite TV shows.

I loved the show, but I haven't watched it since Steve Carell left. It's not the same without Michael Scott. Even with that being said, it's still one of my all-time favorite sitcoms.

I think they really need to cancel it. I loved the early seasons of the show but without Carell it's borderline horrible IMO. After Rainn Wilson leaves it's going to be even worse. I really liked Andy as a secondary character but not as the lead guy. I actually liked Robert California but it just seems like the rest of the show has fallen flat.

I thought the first half of Season Eight was really rough and I was ready to sound the alarm bell for a quick cancellation to put the show out of its misery. Right around the halfway point of the season, though, it got back on track in a big way, and starting offering some bigger, and more consistent, belly laughs than even the last couple of Michael Scott seasons delivered for me, so now I'm optimistic about its future again. It'll be sad to lose Kelly, though...

I heard about Rainn Wilson possibly making "The Farm", but I've never heard about Mindy Kaling doing any other projects. Why might Kelly go now?

So how much does it suck that they're ending the office this season?

I love it, have watched the first 6 seasons and have 7 on blu, so have yet to watch it post Carrell, I can't see how it can be as Epic without him, I'll remain open minded though
