'Best of/Must own' import releases of 2012 - ?

I don't know if there is a pre-existing thread/discussion in regards to this, but what in your opinion were the best import (from any country) releases of 2012 ??

I've been reading the praise of the French release of Jean Renoir's The River - but I've been trying to hold off on buying this since it's strongly suggested that a Stateside Criterion release will/might happen in 2013.

having the correct aspect ratio of The Last Emperor from Japan is great but the image doesn't wow me, the black levels seemed washed out and the image doesn't seem that sharp.

anyhow - got any recommendations ? (and sorry I'm asking this nearly at the end of February and not in say, early January).
