I'm very interested in seeing this Oscar-nominated film, but the back of Universal's Blu-ray gives me pause:

[Show spoiler]

As you can see, it's specified to not only have no extras on a BD-25, but also to have only a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Although this Blu-ray is from Universal, it's actually one of the titles they only distribute for another studio (in this case, Neon), and those discs have indeed occasionally had lossy audio, like some Pure Flix titles, for example.

So I noticed that there will be two local discs in Finland and Sweden next week, as opposed to a pan-Scandinavian release.

Finland's Futurefilm will release a disc which also says it has Dolby Digital audio:

[Show spoiler]

But in Sweden, it looks like a different disc will be released from Universal Sony Nordic, which does not specify what the audio codec will be, but also claims it will have English subtitles:

[Show spoiler]

I suppose it's possible that these will end up being the same disc, but usually pan-Scandinavan discs are pretty identical, so these look like they could actually be two different discs.

If anyone picks either disc up, could you please confirm whether the audio is lossless or not?

Strange, it seems there is also going to be a Norwegian Blu-ray from Another World Entertainment:

but in Denmark, it seems that there will only be a DVD:

With how completely barren the current disc looks, this looks like another inevitable acquisition for Scream Factory. Shame Universal/Neon is including absolutely nothing on how the makeup for this was done.

Good news! I got my copy delivered from Amazon today, and despite what the packaging itself, and the label on the disc says, it actually has 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, instead of the listed Dolby Digital 5.1. The DTS-HD MA is the only audio track on the disc, there is no dolby digital whatsoever.

All Universal discs of Neon films say Dolby Digital on the back for some reason but they all have lossless audio.

I watched it a couple weeks ago and something about it didn't click with me. I didn't dislike it but I expected something more.
It could just be that I wasn't in the right headspace for it, as I didn't really pick up on the allegory or what it was trying to say on a deep enough and satisfying level.
I do wish I hadn't put off seeing it in the theater. The viewing wouldn't have felt as obligatory, as this was one I rushed to see just before the Oscars. I'll want to watch it again before not-too-long.

Gotcha. I'd def recommend giving it another spin, I've only watched it twice so far....I was equally blown away both times though.

What a strange, and twisted, yet fascinating tale. It's definitely best to go in knowing as little as possible. The strangeness factor kind of comes in waves, where you think that was the strangest part of the movie, only to be faced with a completely different perspective and twist, and another, right to the very end. I wouldn't even know how to really describe the movie. It's no doubt fantasy, but also part drama, part crime thriller, and part romance. It makes for one hell of a mix.

Also, I gotta say, it's not really the best movie to eat too. There's some imagery that goes from kinda weird, to mildly grotesque.

Anybody bought or watched the uk disc from Mubi? Curious to know if it's any good. This is the first release from that company and if it's a good disc that bodes well for their upcoming releases of Under the Silver Lake and the Suspiria remake.

I utterly loved this movie.

Like a trippy fairy tale. Superb.

Just watched the UK Mubi disc. Quality is pretty good, natural colours and no daft filters.
Can look somewhat bleak, but hey, Scandinavia does....
No extras at all on my disc, which was a pitybecause I was often thinking 'how on earth did they do that?'
Very weird and wonderful film. Well worth a rental if you are adventurous enough.

Has anyone tried testing the UK Blu-ray from MUBI on a region A player? I'd like to get that instead of the US release but I'm unsure if it's confirmed to be region locked.

I just picked this up on sale at Gruv without knowing anything about it other than it had good reviews. I love going in knowing little to nothing, and from the brief description I read, I thought it was mostly going to be a crime thriller. I absolutely loved it and was also amazed by how many subjects it deals with, and the touching way it handles so much of it. If ever there was a movie that deserves a commentary track and a wealth of extras, this would be it. Though maybe the filmmakers wanted to keep the mystique, which would be understandable here too.

I also found myself eating during moments I really wish I hadn't been.

I forgot to mention that this one moment had the html for italics in the subtitles for the audio coming from the TV/computer.
IMG_1611.jpg

Also, I was little disappointed that the presumably Swedish song that Tina (Reva!) is singing along with in her car had no subtitles. From the 3 songs listed in IMDB, I think this is the one:

The English translated lyrics fit the story too:
Quote:
On the way

Don't despair sisters,
even though the road seems long!
We will come where we have purpose,
if we don't turn around.
If it is one mountain or ten,
what does it matter.
No, the main thing is, in spite of everything,
that we are going in the same direction.

Don't despair sisters!
Your struggle is also ours.
It is not to measure or be measured if
the battle exists.
Although the disguises change
in the oppression's masquerade,
we have still the same enemy,
when the masks have been pulled off.

They will petrify us
and they want to divide us
because alone and divided
we are easier to beat.
But if we unite ourselves,
if we join together,
then there is nothing that can stop us
from reaching our goal together.

The people will conquer!
They can not be vanquished!
And those who were humiliated
become victorious in the end.
But half of humanity
will never be free
as long as the other half
is held in slavery.
