Why would you buy this player?? As I stated in another thread, its not as good as a PS3 and lacks the PS3's internet, gaming etc.. Also, it doesn't decode DTS-HD MA and isn't 1.1. Take it back and either buy a PS3 or wait till a better player comes out that is 1.1 and has dts-hd ma decoding.

What is up with people bashing other people's player choices around here? There is no one perfect Blu-ray player out there for everyone. They all have their pros and cons. There are several new standalone players (including the S500) with some excellent A/V specs that should be awesome players for those whose top priority isn't PIP nonsense.
Anyway, to the OP, let us know your thoughts on the player. |

Last time I checked we could use all the stand alone sales we can get. Your telling him to bring it back? Sony is selling allot of s300's I suppose they should all take them back too right?
Although it would be nice for everyone to have 1.1 out of the box, we need sales NOW not in 3 months. Please let me know how the s500 is. I'm still trying to get an answer if it can be brought up to 1.1 via firmware. I've very close to picking up a stand alone this might be it. |

I would seriously doubt the 500 will be upgradeable to 1.1 I'll have to dig it up, but I do remember reading that Sony released this and the ES model early so that they could get them under the 1.0 deadline becasue they knew they could not be upgraded. (they lacked the needed hardware) The Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD is essentially a 500 clone will not be 1.1 upgradeable and Pioneer has already announced the BDP-96FD that will be 1.1 for a Jan 08 release. If you really want a 1.1 player this year, you basically have the Samsung 5000 and the LG BH200. Both of which are dual players. (EDIT: The new Panny appears to be 1.1 and I'm crossing fingers for the Denon units to come out this year) It will be a kick in the b@lls if the only 1.1 players this year will be those two units. Will anyone here thank the HD-DVD side for bringing us 1.1 a little early? ![]() Last edited by bootman; 10-26-2007 at 01:43 PM. |

I bought the S500 when it first came out. Work's fine. If it's not 1.1 (or whatever) big deal. It was the same thing (& still is) for PC graphics cards,..there's something new "weekly" & everyone want's it. My S500 play's Blu-Ray movies on my 52XBR5 great...You can wait till 1.1 come's out..but..hey..2.0 is on the horizon..why not wait for that?...

Gio, give us the load times please.
Presuming you have Pirates of the Carribean 1 & 2, and some other BD-J movies. Please time: * Warm up time from pressing "power" to actually being "Ready" * Load times on BD-J movies from the instant the tray clicks shut to video intro. * Load times on NON BD-J movies from the instant the tray clicks shut to video intro. Plus any observations you have about menu response time, and how well it upsamples on HDMI. Thanks and good luck with it! |

I'm curious about the load time too. I am looking to buy another Blu-ray player, and I want one that has a load time faster than my S300. I thought about the PS3, but am uncertain if I can stand the noise.... I really like the S300 because it is quiet and performs beautifully. I want a new one with update spec and quick load time.
