can the tv's usb ports be used for audio tho?

what you could do is use the optical or RCA out to an amplifier (smaller ones are available for headphones) then connect your headphones to amp.

moved to headphone section so they can further facilitate your inquiry.

Most likely not. I have never heard of a TV that provides an audio out via USB. Generally those USB ports are just viewed as input sources.

jomari's suggestion is correct though. You will most likely want to go out via either Optical, or if you TV has an analog RCA out, that would work as well. Then all you need is a headphone amp that has either an Optical input, or RCA if you go the analog route, and that should work very nicely.
