Unhappy Thumping Sub Woffer/Rcvr.

Hey Guys
I have an older Denon AVR 2500 recvr that has served well for 8 or 9 years. About 3 yrs ago the sub woffer started to emit a loud thump whenever I changed audio modes on the rcvr. I,m talking "wake up the house" loud here.

Any ideas on weather I have a sub woffer or rcvr. problem?

I hate to think about a new rcvr as it has taken me all this time to get my wife to the point where she can operate the system by herself. It looks like these new rcvers. that output everything on HDMI would be a good way to go but I,m not up for a $1K plus expendure just yet .

Thanks in advance

RBC

Subs generally just do what they are told... the fact that it is happening right when you switch audio modes makes me think it's a receiver problem. Also it sounds like an electronic problem so not something easily fixable...

Sorry for the bad news... although good subs can cost as much as good receivers I suppose. I myself am stuck with a non-HDMI receiver Looking at a Denon AVR-2808 or -3808.

I agree with the poster above. I've been working at a service center for about 8 years and I've seen this or similar problems plenty of times, and most of the time the receiver is the culprit. You should get it looked at.

I had a similar problem and it was my sub. I figured it our after buying a new Receiver. and still having the same issue with the sub. I took the receiver and exchanged it for Klipsch Sub that rocks the crap out of my house. If you have another sub in the house, try switching them out and you should find your answer a lot quicker then I did.

Yah, sounds like it is the reciever. Time to up grade any way, 85W x 3, 25W x 2 rear Dolby Pro Logic is a bit antiquated. DTS will make your pants fall off
You don't have to get the newest & best thing too.
Take a look a the new denon AVR-1908 $599 msrp:

could be the amp on your sub. i had a jbl a few years ago and had to trash it. a certified jbl service center said it was some kind of module that they didnt make anymore that kept sending a signal to the speaker.
