Default Hi all. Great to hear about Blu winning TF week

Well done to everyone involved in giving Blu yet another victory last week.

It may only have been a 2% margin, but to quote a line from the shamlessly poor Universal flick The Fast and The Furious "It doesn't matter whether you win by an inch or a mile, Winning is winning"

Given a choice, I believe we all would rather be in *our* position right now than *their* position. (It's always nice when the other folks have to provide the spin -- yet again. )

The best thing is that we almost expected to lose that week, and HD-DVD supporters definitely expected to win that week, but we still won anyway. By far and away their biggest title (because let's face it, it has much more family appeal than Bourne ever can and Shrek 3 is crap) and they still couldn't do it, even ended up with Crapamount lying about sale figures. They may have produced and distributed 190,000 (the figure first mentioned as sales) copies but as mentioned on another thread here the actual sales figures was less than 90,000. Let's hope that the next time a 'big' title is released on HD-DVD we get more BOGOF offers.

The only HD DVD movie I would worry a bit about is The Bourne Ultimatum. But Universal stupidly chose to release it when Warner releases Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and the Harry Potter Box Set! And on that week we also have: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2!

Also With Spiderman coming to Blu-ray in the US this coming week, i'm sure we'll see a huge surge when the figures come in the week after.

Spider-man has a fantastic chance of becoming a record breaking Blu-ray, nay, record breaking HD release full stop, next week.

I've got theb Spidey trilogy on Blu and they are fantastic. Spidey 3 is the best looking of the three, And 2 looks great aswell.

High School Musical is popular with the 5 to 14 year old crowd. I don't see it selling to many of us, unless we have children who like that kind of thing.

I bought 3 BD's at Best Buy on Tuesday & I got 3 from Warner directly but those probably won't count towards the nielsen's but will matter in the WB going blu campaign

Ah, but there are plenty of the crowd here that this title fits.. just look at how they write and what they say.

By the way, what does the winner of the weekly sales get besides some silly bragging rights? Look at SD sales in comparison, then brag if you beat any of those! Gotta love short sighted thinking!

BD is not at war with DVD; it will replace DVD. We're all aware HDM accounts for about 3.5% of the DVD market. It won't become a mass market commodity until there is a single HD disc format, which BD is better positioned to do---than HD-DVD, I mean---in every significant regard. Short-sighted thinking results in storage & bandwidth insufficiencies in a format which has no practical application except delivering PQ & SQ to the home consumer.

Good response! I am not sure that either format has a real leg up at this point, but I like what you said about one format replacing SD. I say that I am not sure about which one is because it is still too early in the fight. Something major needs to come from one or the other for any real breakthroughs to happen. What that will be is anyone's guess but without mass adoption... sigh
