Default Your favorite version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Which of these officially released versions of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been your favorite to watch or collect?

As a collector of all editions of the original, the re-releases are starting to climb up there. I'll be anxious to see what's in store for the film's 50th Anniversary!

I like the 40th 4 disc set. The Black Maria is cool but would take up to much space on the shelf.

Yeah, the 40th Anniversary 4 disc set is really attractive (and the most up to date). I just recently went back and got the 2006 two disc Steelbook. For some reason I never picked it up upon its initial release. It's a very cool package.

Heck, I'm even a fan of the old VHS tapes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I still think a film as gritty and cheap as that one feels most at home on a VHS tape. It hasn't stopped me from buying all the wonderful blu ray editions though...

I loved the 98 DVD, as it was one of the first DVDs I owned and it was (probably) the first movie I ever listened to the commentary. It was so insightful hearing them talk about the movie. I aspired to be a filmmaker as a child (that died a quick death when I actually tried as an adult) and the commentary on that DVD was both enjoyable and educational. It gives a lot of details on what it's like to make a low budget movie.

Because of that DVD (and eventually Gunnar Hansen's book), I've probably learned more about that movie than any other movie in history.

Yeah, the original 1998 DVD holds a special place for me as well. I also like the case artwork. I like when the artwork stays close to the movie poster art. Even though all the following releases have had nice cases, I still think the artwork on that first Pioneer DVD is probably the best.

The UK 40th release corrected the audio issues of the US 40th.

I thought about buying this one, but I think it's Region B locked.

The Second Sight Steelbook that came out in 2014 is a real beauty.

The 40th 4-Disc, for sure. Watched it twice since I got it and find it to be looking and sounding damn good.
