Wiiiind up your projectors! “UNDER THE SMOGBERRY TREES” is the first ever feature length documentary about the legendary Dr. Demento!

A MEEP MORP STUDIO production, "Under the Smogberry Trees" is being created, shot and edited in sunny HOLLYWOOD, U.S.A. (or reasonably close anyway) in 2013. A KICKSTARTER campaign for financing will launch in early 2013.

Dr. Demento is a legend in radio who has hosted his show, "The Dr. Demento Show", for over 40 years. Brand new episodes can STILL be heard every week, as well as over 700 archived episodes dating back to 1970, at drdemento.com

Meep Morp Studio is a home based studio specializing in graphic design and post-production animation. It comprises of Scott McKenzie, Christy McDonald, and Devin Lucas (who first interviewd Dr. Demento in 1991 for a seventh-grade English assignment!)

The fan-produced documentary is an engaging history of “The Dr. Demento Show” up to date, covering the lasting impact of funny music on popular culture, and including interviews with dementites (the famous and the nearly famous) connected to and/or inspired by the show over its four decades and counting.

It also serves as the definitive profile of musicologist Barrett Hansen, his musical roots and his mission, in his own words. It follows Hansen from his Minneapolis childhood, through his Master’s degree in Folklore and Ethnomusicology from UCLA, and on to donning the heavy top hat of Dr. Demento in 1970 and carrying it into both the Comedy Music AND Radio Halls of Fame!

Packed with brand new interviews, fan memories, insane archival footage, and original animation! Let’s celebrate the music we all grew up with as we finally get to know the man beneath the top hat who has served it to us on a black platter every weekend in “UNDER THE SMOGBERRY TREES!”
