Default My Bloody Valentine - m b v

Are there any other My Bloody Valentine fans on the site?

My Bloody Valentine's 1988 album, Isn't Anything, and their 1991 album, Loveless, were a big part of the soundtrack to my college life in the early 1990s, but the band went on indefinite hiatus after Loveless. Over the past two decades, Kevin Shields has repeatedly promised in interviews that My Bloody Valentine would have a new album out, but most of us simply stopped listening after a while. When Shields announced this year that the new album was being mastered, it was a true case of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, and I shrugged off the announcement.

My Bloody Valentine's first album in over 21 years, m b v, was released last Saturday night after a rushed announcement. The release resulted in a temporary website crash as thousands of fans rushed the store, but everything was in working order the next day when I ordered the album.

I think that m b v is heavenly. It's the first great album of 2013, and it's a much better album than any of us fans could have expected. Unlike most "long-lost reunited band" albums, m b v actually sounds like a natural progression from where My Bloody Valentine left off back in 1991.

m b v will not revolutionize music like Loveless did back in 1991, but it is not trying to. This new album recaptures the magic while showing off some new tricks, and that's good enough for me.

You can order the album (vinyl + download, CD + download, or download-only) from My Bloody Valentine's website.

You can also listen to the album in its entirety on YouTube.

Here's my favorite track:

I pulled the trigger on the CD + download purchase, and I've been listening to the lossless wav files all week.

This album has my highest recommendation.
