Default Ventura's Home Theatre v2.4 (updated 19 May 2013)

Fellas!

Following the arrival of our new (budget) home theatre suite, I thought I'd finally upload some shots of our setup.

Most of you here won't have heard of my speakers. Richter are an Australian brand, I'm very happy with the speakers, and I absolutely love the sub.

The whole thing has been done on a rather tight budget, all up for the projector, speaker package, avr, seating, and the player, we spent no more than about $7000AU. We're renting, so I can't "touch" the place in any way. Fortunately, the walls are just white enough so that I can get away with projecting the image straight on to it.

This is version v1.0 of my setup. We have debts to pay off, so we'll be renting for at least another year or two yet. v2.0 will come when we finally move into a place of our own.

In the meantime, I may possibly upgrade to a receiver that supports HDMI (as my Yamaha does not). Haven't decided about that yet. Suggestions are welcome if anyone has any recommendations for a decent hdmi avr that won't break the bank, but having just purchased the suite, it's going to be at least a few months until I'll be ready to buy.

Thanks for reading anyway, and let me know what you think.

Very Nice Set-Up.

Beautiful Image with the Projector(Especially a Transformers Screen Shot)And the Seating is Beautiful.I would Love to have Theater Like Seating like you have.Looks extremely comfortable and a Great Place to spend a Few Hours Watching A Movie.

Overall a Really Nice System(Considering you are renting)Because if you had this in Your Own Home I Imagine you would have added several other "Personal" Touches to Your System.

But All in All,Great Work.
I made sure to leave you a Rating and Comments for your Gallery.

Thanks for Sharing Your System With Us .

Very nice looking system (but take the sticker off the receiver )

I thought at first you had speakers made by our own Richteer, but I quickly saw that they are Richter speakers.

Thanks for the comments guys. If it were my own house, I'd definitely make more personal touches to it, but when you're renting there's not a whole lot you can do.

It didn't occur to me at the time, but then I realised; I took that shot of Optimus and then referred to it as the prime watching position. No pun intended.

Talstarone, I noticed a local place is selling that Yamaha RX-V665 for $1399AU. Given that the Aussie dollar is valued at about $0.90US right now, I'm guessing that's grossly expensive. As usual, we pay a premium out here. I'm very happy with my Yamaha though, I'd have no problem just upgrading to one of their better models.

Once again guys, thanks for the comments. I'll take more shots once I've upgraded to an avr with hdmi, and I'll get those cables cleaned up too

Nice sub!!! I know little about Seaton subs....but I assume this is a sealed sub? Is it a powered sub or a passive one....I didn't see the amp in the pics?

My bad mate; it's most certainly a powered sub, the amp was on the other side of all the shots I took. I've since snapped another one, and have added it to my gallery.

Oh yeah, it's a Dual 15" sealed sub. Nasty piece of work.

Dual 15"...wow. I really love the concept of the push/pull drivers. Are you 50/50 with watching movies and listening to music? I bet that sub sounds great for music.

Hehe, that's an old quote, from before the SubMersive's time.

I guess you could say that's bumped it up to about $10k, but this sub's one of the best $3k's I've ever spent. Everything hits you in the chest now... repeatedly!

Tomorrow I will actually move it over to the other side of the room, that being the side that I generally sit. Only real reason being, when we have people over, I don't really want to risk them getting close to it. My wife's sister's little girl, she could easily spill something on it, and I would not be a happy Ventura if you know what I mean.

So I'll keep it over my side of the room, and we're cool

Actually I'm more 98% movies, but I'll have to give it a go listening to music and report back with my findings.

I have often read that sealed subs are excellent for music...more so than ported ones. I dual 15" sealed sub should sound amazing with music IMO.

I've read the same about sealed and music, yeah.

I didn't upgrade because of that though (because I'm all about my movies). My old sub, the Aussie Richter Thor, used to throw out a lot of port noise when the going got tough. Great, great sub, for the price, but I did find it doing that very distracting.

So I guess you could say I wanted a SubMersive to get past that, and then there's the fact that, everywhere I looked, so many tended to be raving about them.

It came down to this or SVS, but when the Aussie dollar (recently) jumped back up to about $0.93US, my choice became clear

Well, you picked a great sub nonetheless. You couldn't have gone wrong with Seaton or SVS...

How low can it go before any distortion is introduced?

It's one fine sub Fors. Here is a link to some info and graphs.

I hear you about SVS, they are spoken so very highly of. I know you're anticipating the arrival of another, not long now huh?

I haven't done a lot of SubMersive testing yet, but I hope to have REW setup and properly calibrated on my laptop by the end of the weekend. The wife's jaw dropped playing back the Ironhide flip from Transformers 1 at 0dB on the receiver, and the sub laughed at anything Transformers 2 and Terminator Salvation could throw at it.

The first movie I watched after I'd set it up was Knowing, and the plane crash in that scene got a "holy shit" from me. It's not the best movie I've ever seen, but this quality of bass really immerses you in so much more than you'd be otherwise.

Submersive
You can say that again....it has ICEpower and gets down to 18Hz easily!!! I found it interesting that they decided to not include any kind of internal crossover. Not that we use it really, but I found it interesting it was excluded regardless.

The Knowing plane scene gave me the same exact feeling. I used REW for my current sub and got a pretty even bass response without having to do anything. I had a friend help me set it up though, because with computers, I have a lot to learn and it seems a bit overwhelming to me. My lack of computer knowledge is what stops me every time I think about the SVS AS-EQ1 to calibrate it further.

Those scenes are really good ones to push the sub too. I used the same ones. But I have yet to get close to 0db's!
