Default Guitar Hero III Backwards Compatibility Clarification

I have heard this about the guitar from Guitar Hero III for backwards compatibility:

1.) GH 1
-100% compatible

2.) GH 2
-limited functionability

3.) GH 80's Encore
-limited functionability

The only answer I have been able to find for "limited functionability" on the forums is that motion control might not work for star power, you'd have to press select.

I have only played GH once so I am unfamiliar with the controls. Is this the only problem with backwards compatibility? I'd have to press a button instead of swinging the guitar around?

it might be a bit harder then normal , to hit star power you tilt the neck upwards then back down , so your holding the guitar as normal and tilt up and down this way you can keep your hands in place and keep playing , if you have to hit the select button instead you have to move your hand away from the strum bar and you will most likely miss a note and lose your scoreX

It was written by an admin on the official GH3 forums.

I guess we won't really know the extent of "limited functionability" until the game comes and and everyone tries it out.

I'm simply hoping to be able to download the songs from the previous games...we'll see if that happens (happened for the 360 version of GH2)

Can anyone update this?
IGN ran a story, here is the link

It looks like they basically tested it on the 360. But here is a quote from the article that jumps out.

The Guitar Hero 3 Les Paul (360) also works with everything and also can't be used to activate the Rock Band special effects. We tried it on Rock Band and played through roughly 10 songs without any hitches. Of note here is that the Guitar Hero 3 PS3 controller can't be used with Guitar Hero 2, even with the disc put into a PS3 that should make it backwards compatible.
Hopefully this is an issue that can be fixed via updates...If anyone has the Guitar Hero games and a PS3, would you please try them out to see if the new PS3 controller works for them.

Thank you.

I'd also like to know if GH1 works with the GH3 controller. They changed the FAQ at Guitar Hero forums after Sony announced the non-BC PS3 so I'm thinking maybe it'll work with old PS3's w/ EE chip. I noticed IGN said Guitar Hero 2 wouldn't work but they never mentioned Guitar Hero 1....
