Default Be sure to check your Target BD purchases, they're still poking holes in cases/discs.

I initially reported on this issue back in 2010 in this thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=148967

Last week on 2/28/13 I purchased several new movies from target. Tuesday night I decided to open them and found out one of them had a hole punched through the UPC. The difference between then and now is studios now use 'eco' cases instead of solid cases, so you can take a guess what happened next. They gouged the BD disc itself.

I've spoke to corporate once again and was assured it was absolutely without a doubt never supposed to happen, yet I was told the same three years ago. I;m told I'll be receiving a follow up soon.

Member grrrarg explained it well as it happens at his local store as well:

I actually asked the manager one day and they didn't want to talk about it. They finally said it was for loss prevention purposes in case the item shows up in a pawn shop they can tell what store in the region it came from due to the specific digit they put the hole in.

I wrote a letter to corporate a couple years ago and got no response but the store seemed to stop for a while. Then they started doing it again but only on certain titles.

It is true and it is happening even if you don't believe it! Granted, the frequency has dropped off lately. I could take a picture of it in the store but you'd probably think I bought it, poked a hole in it and returned it and waited for them to restock it

I still think its incredibly bizarre that they are paying people to damage the merchandise.
