What are the top 10 movies you hope to see on Blu-ray in 2013?
By tracking our most wanted movies, this may be an interesting way to track the progress of Blu-ray over the year. Something to come back to this time next year and see where we stand. This was my list for 2012: 01. Vertigo (1958) / ALFRED HITCHCOCK 02. Singin’ in the Rain (1952) / STANLEY DONEN & GENE KELLY 03. Tokyo Story (1953) / YASUJIRO OZU 04. Lawrence of Arabia (1962) / DAVID LEAN 05. Bicycle Thieves (1948) / VITTORIO DE SICA 06. Rashomon (1950) / AKIRA KUROSAWA 07. Passion of Joan of Arc, The (1928) / CARL DREYER 08. Touch of Evil (1958) / ORSON WELLES 09. La Dolce vita (1960) / FEDERICO FELLINI 10. La Grande illusion (1939) / JEAN RENOIR Honorable Mention: Unaltered Star Wars OT I actually acquired a region-free Blu-ray payer this year so a lot of these movies were suddenly released for me even though they may have been out for a while. Vertigo was released as part of the Masterpiece Collection on the October 30. Singin' in the Rain was released on July 17. Tokyo Story was released by BFI back in 2010. Lawrence of Arabia was released November 13. Bicycle Thieves was released by Arrow back in 2011. Rashomon was released by Criterion on November 6. The Passion of Joan of Arc was released by Eureka on November 26. Touch of Evil was released by Eureka back in 2011. La Grande Illusion was released on July 31. Pretty decent, really. Only one carry-over (and, of course, Star Wars). Anyways, on to 2013: 01. La Dolce vita (1960) / FEDERICO FELLINI 02. Spirited Away (2001) / HAYAO MIYAZAKI 03. Ordet (1955) / CARL DREYER 04. Talk To Her (2002) / PEDRO ALMODOVAR 05. L'Avventura (1960) / MICHELANGELO ANTONIONI 06. Before Sunset (2004) / RICHARD LINKLATER 07. Andrei Rublev (1966) / ANDREI TARKOVSKY 08. Punch-Drunk Love (2002) / PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON 09. Persona (1966) / INGMAR BERGMAN 10. 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) / CRISTIAN MUNGIU Honorable Mention: Unaltered Star Wars OT I think I might go 10 for 10 this year. Maybe even Star Wars. ![]() |
