Default Gangs of New York TV Series

http://www.miramax.com/subscript/ann...-the-tv-series

Quote:
Miramax and Martin Scorsese are bringing a Gangs of New York series to TV.

The series will draw from the multitude of events surrounding organized gangs at the turn of the century and shortly thereafter in America, not only in New York, but in other cities such as Chicago and New Orleans and the birth of organized crime in America.

Gangs was released in 2002 and nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay.

As waves of immigrants swell the population of New York, lawlessness and corruption thrive in lower Manhattan’s Five Points section. After years of incarceration, young Irish immigrant Amsterdam Vallon returns seeking revenge against the rival gang leader who killed his father. Before long, Amsterdam’s personal vendetta becomes part of an erupting wave of full-blown gang warfare, as he and his fellow Irishmen fight to carve a place for themselves in their newly adopted homeland.

I agree, but you really think they'll skip over the character? I don't.

This has the potential to be a landmark series but it would be best if they largely disregarded the film (which I like a great deal) and went back to Herbert Asbury's book, which is basically a compendium of tall tales about gangsters without the narrative contrived for the film

They should have it take place after the movie, have Diaz and Decaprio make guest appearances in the pilot and move on with new characters.

That or long before the movie. Earlier the better, IMO.

I agree with another poster, though. HBO, Cinemax...I'd add Starz and Showtime, as well. Wouldn't want to see it on AMC.

Any network would definitely screw it up.

This is probably going to be bad. Like Eddie Murphys pitch to make a Beverly Hills Cop tv show. BHC might be pretty good if it was on HBO, but not reg cable.

Why? The movie sucked alongside their butchery of the Irish accent.

Why? It could be set before them. That'd be more interesting, IMO.
