Default Goodfellas Blu-ray

Goodfellas is one of favorite movies ever. I have the old flipper DVD, ya my copy is that old.

I was wondering if it was good video quality and audio quality. I realise that it was one of the early releases so it's probably not up to the quality we get now. The only thing I am want to know is it a good pick up. Does it have all the special features of the Special Edition DVD? Don't see why it wouldn't.

Goodfellas Review

I tend to find myself disagreeing with most reviews from hidef digest, but I think this one is pretty accurate. The PQ was definitely better than the dvd version, being that its a mob movie and not a scifi thriller, I wasnt expecting any pop or wowzers! with this film, but was satisfied with knowing it was an overall improvement. AQ is close to the same as the standard dvd from what I recall.

Overall, Goodfellas is an awesome movie, and much better in Blu. Im glad I got it.

A must have. Great PQ, much better than my SD version. All of the Special Features from the SD Special Edition.

Buy GoodFellas on Blu-ray. The PQ is great. It's my second favorite BD, behind Casino Royale of course.

Yes, this is a must-have on blu-ray. It leaves the DVD in the dust.

Not sure it even warrants a mention, but I just read an interview with Jeff Garlin (big guy from Curb Your Enthusiasm) on AICN. In it he says "I like slow camera [movement]. I’m doing it for myself, like, I love watching a Wes Anderson movie. I’ll give you an example: I was watching Goodfellas on Blu Ray with my wife, and that segment where he goes into the nightclub. I’m watching it, and I said to my wife, “This is why I’ll never be great. I can’t be great, because this is greatness, and I don’t have greatness in me. I can’t do it.”

Just thought it was cool that he specified Blu-ray and didn't just say hi-def or even DVD.

Some scenes have stunning quality, and in some others, while keeping the same quality, you can notice the dirt in the film. Which makes it the more interesting. It's no pirates of the caribbean, but the quality is good.

I believe that scene he mentions, going into the nightclub, features the longest, unbroken camera shot in the history of film. The camera follows Liotta and Bracco and they walk down the stairs, through the back hallway and kitchen and out into the main room where waiters set a table in front for them. It's pretty amazing how Scorcese set it up and executed it. You don't see unbroken shots like that in other films.

I'm a big fan of the unbroken shot... The opening to Touch of Evil is pretty fantastic and, if I'm not mistaken, Brian DePalma tried to break the Goodfellas record with his single take opening to Snake Eyes. I don't think he succeeded though...

The PQ is very good and the audio is pretty good (DD 5.1), but not groundbreaking or anything.

It destroyes the PQ of the original DVD release big time.

What about the ending of Taxi driver, or Pulp Fiction with Sam J and Travolta in the hallway? There pretty long shots too. Love em.

I absolutely love Goodfellas on blu. PQ and AQ are both top notch. Without a doubt one of my most watched blu's right next to the UK import of Almost Famous

I didn't mean a long unbroken shot in terms of time, but in terms of distance. The camera follows the actors a long way. Scorsese is fond of doing this in hallways or the bowels of buildings (e.g., climax of Taxi Driver).
