Default Over-the-Top Action Films

I am always looking for recommendations for completely ridiculous/stupid action films. And people often have their own opinions on what makes an action film ridiculous/stupid: I've posted this question on other boards and gotten responses like Die Hard and The Transporter series, neither of which are really what I am looking for, considering Die Hard is legitimately great and The Transporters are stupid on purpose.

Think along the lines of stuff like Commando (my # 1), Invasion U.S.A., and Hard Target.

Anything likely stupid by accident is really what I am looking for.

Anything made in the '80s is a plus.

Any recs?

Edit:

Just to save anyone the time, I have seen all the Schwarzeneggers, Stallones, Van Dammes, Norrises, Seagals, Lundgrens, Cages, and everything John Woo.

Pretty much ANY film starring Stallone and produced by Cannon Films in the 1980s.

There is a more recent film that may be worth a look to you, it doesn't quite fit your description, but might be of interest:

It tries to be BOTH and homage AND a send-up of the BDAM (Big Dumb Action Film)

It also tries to be a sort of live action version of a Bugs Bunny/Loony Tunes film. (The only other film that does this that I'm aware of is "The Villain" with Kirk Douglas and Arnold Schwarzenegger).

It does all this on a pretty good budget with good production values and good acting...

So maybe give "Shoot-em-up" a try...starring Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti. Since it tries to straddle so many lines, it is a very polarizing film. YMMV.

(Oh, and Giamatti is so far over the top in this film that the top is but a distant memory to him...)

I've heard some good things about the American Ninja series over the years. I definitely have to check them out.

Tango and Cash sits proudly on my shelf, but thank you for recommending. You're definitely picking up my line of thinking.

BIG fan of these films, especially Part 2. Looking very forward to Snipes and Gibson in Part 3. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Just watched Shoot 'Em Up last week for the first time after having seen it in theaters.

Not sure if Cannon Films produced Cobra, but the first fifteen minutes of that movie are pure gold.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Check out Schwarzenegger's and Stallone's 80s output. Also checkout John Woo's films, the Death Wish sequels, Van Damme and Seagal's early work etc.

Final Score (1986) - a filipino action movie directed by Arizal. All his movies are worth checking out but this one in particular is insane! If you can find a copy.

This is the website you want to consult.

The Ruthless Reviews Guide to 80s Action:

From the site:
Quote:
Big sweaty men! Big noisy guns! Dozens of people getting beaten and slaughtered–per scene! Entire cities razed to the ground! Liberal wimps beware as simple handguns become judge, jury and executioner!

And the only repercussion is that the Stupid Chief takes your badge and gun for the weekend…
