Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention – Due Spring 2012 in NA/EU
Quote:
Last month, we reported a rumor that Nippon Ichi would be porting Disgaea 3 to the PlayStation Vita. That rumor has been confirmed by Dengeki PlayStation magazine in Japan. As previously reported, the Vita port is titled Disgaea 3 Return.
Two new characters and four new scenarios have been added to the game, and the downloadable content from the original PlayStation 3 version will be present as well. Nippon Ichi have also reportedly modified the character portraits to appear similar to those of Disgaea 4's.
In an interview with the magazine, Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa says that current plans call for the game to be shown in playable form at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which will be held in mid September.
As detailed earlier, the Vita port of PlayStation 3's Disgaea 3 will feature four new scenarios. These all take place after the main storyline and have different main characters. They're meant to shine the spotlight on side characters. One of the four scenarios will feature two new characters.
In his interview, Niikawa said the main attraction for the Vita version is the new scenarios. The last of the four scenarios is so long that one could actually say the game includes five new scenarios, he said.
The Vita version will also include all the PS3 version's download content, including the four chapters of the Raspberyl scenario, 49 background tracks, 29 save data icons, and so-forth.
There could be additional Vita exclusive features besides the new scenarios. Niikawa said that they're hoping to make use of positional information and touch functionality. The Vita version may also get its own download content, although if this were the case the content would focus on characters from Disgaea 4.
One thing that won't be changing is the sprite resolution. Niikawa said that they were considering upping the visuals the high resolution like in Disgaea 4, but instead decided to focus on adding content to the game. He assured that the game looks beautiful on the Vita screen.
The Vita version may have faster load times than PS3 version. While the game is not yet running on the system's flash cards, Niikawa expects the loading to be better due to both the Vita's advanced capabilities and better memory management (I'm not sure if he's referring to the Vita's better memory management or the programmers' better memory management).
Nippon Ichi will be looking at the response Return gets to decide what type of titles they should bring to the Vita, Niikawa said.
Separate from Disgaea 3 Return, Niikawa also provided hints about four of Nippon Ichi's unannounced games. For details, see this story.
1. An action RPG from the Prinny team with full polygon visuals. We'll get our first look in about a month. Platform is unspecified.
2. An all new title from the Disgaea team. This is said to have the visual quality of the illustrations from Disgaea 4. The staff is using the knowhow it gained from Disgaea 4 for networking and other areas. The game will have a famous illustrator for its character designs. Platform is unspecified.
3. A new title from System Plasma, makers of Classic Dungeon. Platform is unspecified.

It also looks like the decision makers at Nippon Ichi want to make a PlayStation Vita sequel to PSP's Criminal Girls. However, this won't be happening for the time being, as they would not make a sequel without Kazuya Niinou.
Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa shared a couple of additional hints today about one of the mystery game's he'd mentioned in a Dengeki PlayStation interview earlier this week.
Niikawa took the stage today during the Akihabara Denkigai Festival event in Tokyo's electronics capital and said that one of the new games is an action RPG with character designs from Disgaea series character designer Takehito Harada and Disgaea musician Tenpei Satou. The new game will be announced towards the end of September and is planned for release in early 2012.
Based off Niikawa's comments, the game in question appears to be the new game from the Prinny team. In his interview with Dengeki, Niikawa said that this game would have full polygon visuals.
During the stage show, Niikawa shared a brief sample of the game's music and also showed one piece of artwork.
A platform for the new game was not announced at the event.
Disgaea 3 Return will be called Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention in America and Europe and will have a Spring 2012 release(for the English version).
If you have an Android device, you can get a Disgaea game called Disgaea Netherworld Unbound this Fall that NIS America will release for free with purchasable items. The game is basically the Item World.
PlayStation Plus is handing out another free game starting March 26th. In North America, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention will be made available for free to PS Plus users.
