Calendar really deserved its own spine. It's a wholly separate work that feels very different from Exotica.

I'm hopeful that we'll see a number of Egoyan's films trickle in over the next few years. He'll always hold a special place for me, particularly Family Viewing and The Adjuster, although his post-Ararat films are almost uniformly pretty embarrassing, except for the self-conscious return to his earlier work, Adoration

There is a great interview with Egoyan in the documentary This Film is Not Yet Rated which specifically covers Exotica and the deeply reactionary Motion Picture Association of America's decision to give it an NC-17 rating.

I'm not getting rid of my Zeitgeist box anytime soon, as Criterion didn't carry over his excellent commentary for Calendar

I adore THE ADJUSTER, it's so disturbing and twisted, I simply cannot wait for that one especially! I can still remember the awe I had on first viewing many years ago, it was my first Egoyan, that film stuck with me for days or even weeks, and I still love revisiting it. Didn't know Criterion had these early Egoyans; thanks for that info! THE SWEET HEREAFTER is also a dark gem, one of his best, of course.

I sort of lost interest in his later films. They seemed to have lost some of his best traits; the darkness, the puzzle element, trying to piece things together as those pieces unravel, sometimes knocking you for a blow, and so forth. But I haven't seen all of his more recent stuff so I may be missing out on some good ones.

Adoration is the most recent one that I truly enjoyed, but he’s made a few truly wretched films in the last 15+ years

I have the Canadian Blu of The Sweet Hereafter but being one of my favorite films, I’d very likely buy a Criterion release. I need to revisit Exotica before picking it up.

I wonder if this will be the same transfer as the Canadian BD I have.

Commentary appears to be the same one. That was the only extra on the Canadian disc.

I'll buy it either way.

Calendar also had a commentary on the Zeitgeist/Alliance DVD, so it would be infuriating if that was missing.

Peep Show was included on the Zeitgeist DVD of Family Viewing, and the Artificial Eye BD of Calendar.

You know right away the type of movie you're getting.

Looking at the new cover I'd assume this was a Wes Anderson type comedy set in the tropics.

However, great this is getting a release. Definitely picking it up.

The new cover art works. It is nice. The new cover art references the musical genre “exotica” from which the club in the story took its name. “Exotica” is “tropical ersatz” according to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exotica
It’s about unauthentic experience. The fake plants and fake parrot next to the DJ in the club are all part of that conceit.
