United Kingdom Blu-ray.com Limited Edition Steelbooks! Open Debate.

Would members be interested in Limited Edition Steelbooks @ Blu-ray.com? I've been mulling with the idea recently doing a similar thing to Entertainment Store. A pre-approved steelbook title would be available to purchase through my groupbuys and will come with an exclusive 'Cudzndrips Limited Edition @ Blu-ray.com sticker'. There would be a limited number available which would state on the sticker, so similar to the ES stickers. It would only be made available through this site making it a collectable to add to your collections.

I've contacted the mods about the possibility of doing this and am awaiting the go ahead so at this time I'm interested what members think.....

I think it would be a great idea! Obviously there's a healthy community here that would be all for this.

I'd be interested, but would the cases be Blu-Ray.com exclusives with unique art, or would it just be a number sticker that's exclusive?

Only if it means exclusive steelbooks. I'm not interested in exclusive stickers.

Yes it would just be an exclusively designed sticker similar to the ES stickers. It may also be possible to individually number each sticker.

I don't wish to rain on your parade but it sounds like you are opening a huge can of worms to me.

I could imagine there being legal issues involved with doing this as I don't think any retailer would be happy with you buying their product and reselling it as your own which you would basically be doing by adding your sticker to their product.

Especially with retailer exclusive artwork which they will have paid a premium to get.

If you were to include a sticker for free with each purchase however and let the buyer decide what they wanted to do with it then that would be a different matter.

So as it's nothing more than a sticker which any other member could easily replicate without too much difficulty then it's a no from me, sorry.

Its a great idea but to make it more exclusive and "limitied" something extra would be needed. What I mean is when retailers have there exclusives they offer sims thing extra. The most reason being zavvis exclusive of fast & furious 6 with 4 "exclusive" postcards.

Perhaps, if possible, you could add a couple of exclusive postcards (just two screenshots from film printed on photo paper). That would make release a real exclusive add maybe add a couple £ extra to cover postcard cost.

Overall, a really great idea

It would be a release widely available, in other words it'll be stocked by places likes Amazon, Zavvi, The Hut and not exclusive to one retailer. We'd start with like a limited number of 50 or 100 then see how it goes from there. If the sticker on the steelbook is a problem then the sticker and an exclusive goodie extra could be supplied with the steelbook, members could then decide if they wanted to attach the sticker or tuck it inside the case.

That sounds perfect & would make a good reason to go for lesser rare titles.

Please do day after tomorrow lol

Unfortunately, I would not back this project. I came into the thread being mislead by the title thinking that I would be weighing in on whether we should take the Blufans approach to getting our own exclusive STEELBOOK. In this case you are simply offering a retailer exclusive with a sticker added to it. And, since most people open their steelbooks and wouldn't want to add said sticker directly onto the steelbook case after the shrinkwrap is removed, then what is really the point?

Sticker = Not gonna cut it. Sorry.
Postcards = Not gonna cut it either.
Unique artwork = I'd consider it if the artwork was nice and the film was good.

I just don't see how a "Blu-ray.com exclusive" like you are describing could be advertised when retailers are already offering the same thing. "But, this has a sticker on it! "

I totally agree with this. If it was a unique title or even just a Steelbook with exclusive artwork, I would definitely be interested. If it was just adding a sticker/slipcover/other extras to an existing release like with the HDN version of Seven Psychopaths, then it would be a no from me. The second scenario just sounds like an excuse to charge a higher price and doesn't actually offer anything special in my opinion.

Agreed, you are going to have to do more than just a sticker. If you can actually get different artwork and have an actually "bluray.com" steelbooks then I would be in.

Thanks for your input guys. For me it's not possible to do the Blufans approach and get different artwork for the steelbook, it'll simply take too much planning and money. I don't agree with the sticker replies though, what would make a steel with my sticker any different from say ES? Those that have removed their ES stickers have stuck them inside the case, and those who keep them for collectable reasons leave them sealed with the stickers on. Both GI Joe and Jack Reacher were available elsewhere so what makes them collectable having a sticker.....

I'm just trying to add a little something special that Blu-ray.com members can benefit owning. So far the mods think it could be a good idea.

I would say if anything, go the blufans route. They seem to sell out every one, and with the coin that they give on some of the releases, this could become a real winner for the site and its members. If it was an exclusive steelbook, I would by it.
