USA Sergio Martino's The Scorpion with Two Tails (1982) - January 24, 2023

Full Moon Pictures will be releasing Sergio Martino's The Scorpion with Two Tails on Blu-ray on January 24th.

Quote:
Originally shot as an 8-part horror miniseries for Italian television, maverick director Sergio (TORSO) Martino's 1982 horror mystery THE SCORPION WITH TWO TAILS was later cut down to feature length and released theatrically in various European markets. But the movie hasn't properly been available in North America on Blu-ray or DVD....until now! THE SCORPION WITH TWO TAILS film tells the story of a young woman (Elvire Audray, NOSFERATU IN VENICE) who is having gruesome dreams of ancient sacrificial rites. When her husband is murdered in the same ritualistic way, she begins to suspect that someone or something is targeting her, leading her deep into a nightmarish mystery involving death, smuggling and reincarnation. Featuring a score by the great Fabio Frizzi (in part using cues from Lucio Fulci's CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD) this stylish and bizarre chiller stars the iconic John Saxon (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) in a key role, features a supporting turn by Italian exploitation regular Franco Garofalo (HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD) and is filmed on location in eerie Italian catacombs, caves and cemeteries. Full Moon is excited to be bringing this eerie chiller back from the dead in a handsome presentation remastered from the best available materials

Nice, but about time. Feels like it's been awhile since they announced they had this.

Good, my Mya DVD is now officially a coaster (unless Full Moon's release manages to not be an improvement over it lol).

I wish it was coming from a studio other than Full Moon, but still nice to see it finally released on Blu-ray.

True. The list of extras is disappointing.

I've always been a fan of this zany mess, and am absolutely thrilled to see it land on blu ray in HD finally. We might also see some overseas labels dropping their own releases with some features not found on the Full Moon release, as was the case with Creepozoids (such as subtitles).

That's where I'm coming from. A bit nervous about the blind buy, but it's Sergio, so...

The new artwork uses images from the two Italian 2F posters. The UK quad of House by the Cemetery uses a very similar image.

I'm excited for this, but also worried as Full Moon's encodes are all over the place. Still, they have a few good releases, so it gives me hope.

This is part of FM's current B1G1 sale (actually it's 50% off 2+ titles). They've already shipped mine too.

I received it yesterday, and when they say "from the best available materials" on the back cover you can believe it. I don't know why they'd term it a "handsome presentation remastered" though!

The transfer looks pretty lackluster, obviously originally coming from a worn film print. Very soft with little fine detail to be seen, looking more like a DVD upconvert than any kind of true filmic HD source. Macroblocking and compression artifacts are at times severe. I saw "jaggies" at various times, giving further creedence to it simply being an SD upconversion.

The English audio tracks are the standard "lossy" 2.0 or 5.1 upmix, which are always standard practice on FM Blu-ray releases.

The deleted scenes (SD) run 19 minutes in length. No other bonus features other than some "Euro Cult" Trailers for other films.

It's watchable, but I wouldn't say it's much (if any) improvement over the old Mya DVD release.

I'm glad I held off. I was tempted to get it during the ongoing sale, but I'll pass. I don't even get Full Moon's own releases from them. I usually import the German Wicked Vision versions. That's how much I don't trust that label.

The FM BOGO sale is still going on. I still had to have this, knowing it would be pretty rough. My expectations were properly very low from the start. I grabbed two copies for $23 shipped, which is about $11.50 per disc. Not bad, even if it's barely above dvd quality, considering the OOP dvd had been selling for well upwards of $30 for a long time now.

That's hilarious... Because the FM stream on their app looks exactly like your description. Frankly, I turned it off after 15 minutes or so, because I figured the blu would look way better and didn't want to spoil the experience. After reading this, I know what I will watch this weekend and not buy in the future. Thanks for saving me some $$$$$ Full Moon loses another sale, like the Trancers 4K, due to the crap they try to put out on disc. Nice catalog of titles, but pretty much pitiful releases on HD discs.
