Default picture quality degradation over time? True or False?

This may seem like a silly question, but bear with me. I was having a conversation with a friend recently who pointed out that my large blu-ray collection is a waste of money for a number of reasons: streaming availability, price of blu vs other formats, but the most important he seemed to stress was that in his mind, if you watch a blu ray disc over and over again, the quality of the picture degrades over time.

I was able to get him to see the pros of blu over the first two points he raised, but I couldnt find any info online about the long time durability of blu rays.

so, any tech savvy people here: To put this to bed once and for all with my buddy:

Can you watch a blu ray disc 1000 times, and have it still produce the perfect picture it gave you on your first viewing? Or does the picture quality degrade somewhat over time with a large amount of multiple viewings?

thanks for any input you guys/gals can give.
