United Kingdom John Carter of Mars

Had a look and couldn't find a Thread for this, which I thought was odd considering it's out Monday.

Is it really that bad

Oh good, I'm hoping HMV ship it out tonight, I have gone with the 3D Version, although I've heard the 3d's not up to much.

Got mine on order from Amazon when they had the 3D version for £16 briefly. Really looking forward to watching it.

Still rather hoping that the 3D version comes with a slip.

It's better than the reviews IMO. If you like a decent popcorn flick this is pretty good.

The reviews were tainted by everyone proclaiming this would flop even a month before the release. It was far better than plenty of higher rated films.

I must admit, I am looking forward to it, I just wish HMV would hurry up and send it, they are usually quite good.

I thought it had a really pleasant old-fashioned feel to it. The film it most reminded me of was the 1980 FLASH GORDON, which I kind-of love (though JOHN CARTER is far less campy). The campaign against it was pretty inexplicable, if you ask me, and more than likely a bit of Hollywood politics.

It's one of the best blockbusters so far this year, far superior to SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN or WRATH OF THE TITANS. And though it's not really comparable, it's far more successful on its own terms than PROMETHEUS, imo.

Taylor Kitsch comes in for a lot of stick but he's a much more attractive presence than Sam Worthington. The visuals are imaginative and unusual, the story is coherent and the framing device gives it a unique spin.

And the 3D is fine, no better or worse than most. If it wasn't for the fact that some people seem to take against it, I'd say it was a reasonably safe blind-buy for genre fans.

I just called HMV who told me that have 100 on order and NONE have been sent out yet, as they have not received them from the Supplier.

When I told him there were Members on here who had got them sent, he seemed a little Flustered, I don't see why they feel the need to lie.

Same here, the rep on the phone said, he thought it would be tomorrow morning now, which is fine it should still arrive Saturday.

Mine is the 3D version though, so maybe that's the hold up?

Looking forward to watching this. I was hoping for a Frank Frazetta style romp but it is a Disney film after all looking for a maximum audience.

If the price is right I'll pick it up Monday.

You rang up HMV this morning to moan about why they haven't despatched a title that isn't released till next Monday?I know they post early but a little patience is required sometimes. The HMV bloke wasn't flustered,he was probably just amazed that some people have a lot of time to spare...
