Pat Higgins is full of ****! Obviously has no idea about the current market and the leaps and bounds BD has taken over the last couple of years!

His grasp and understanding of Blu-Ray is about as good as my Aunt Fanny's!

So because one hmv this simpleton goes to is selling more dvds than blu rays we are just supposed to believe this outlandish theory?????! My hmv has an aisle for blu rays and everything else is dvd. That's the way it has always been. Tesco have loads of blu rays as do asda and Sainsbury's they have two aisles for blus at mine! No doubt blu ray is much better than dvd and I doubt the format is going anywhere anytime soon.

"I'm not particularly good at research or backing my case up with irritating trivialities like facts or evidence"

Says it all, really.

Nonsense article. I find it ironic that he's using his local HMV as an indication of the popularity of blu-ray; my local HMV has expanded its blu-ray range and they are throughout most of the shop. It just sounds like his local store is a bit rubbish. I pay for Netflix and Lovefilm, and they cut out sometimes despite me paying through the nose for BT Infinity. It doesn't even begin to compare with physical discs, and films are only on there temporarily, and with no special features. I thought that there was some report that indicated that Blu-Ray sales were up this year anyway?

Something coming out of the mouth of "a former stand-up comedian"...is not to be taken seriously. And this one definitely is clueless.

Quote:
Look, I'm not particularly good at research or backing my case up with irritating trivialities like facts or evidence...
This is painfully obvious. Neither were the HDDVD boys who announced the death of Blu-ray 5-6 years ago.

Time will tell how much people like Blu-ray...yet again!

Blu-ray isn't dead yet, nor is DVD, otherwise we wouldn't still be getting new releases on both, which we are ...I'll agree that stores aren't stocking DVD and Blu titles like they used to, but that's because many people order online now...A format is dead when it is no longer produced for mass retail sale...Betamax, VHS, Laserdisc & HD-DVD are dead formats...Both DVD and Blu-ray will continue to be manufactured for years to come...

What a load of tosh.

Now the prices are coming down I the format will increasingly take off. Also it is not THAT expensive to "upgrade your system". Most people now have a HD ready tv. My cinema system was £350 quid. Yes you can spend more and get better results but it is hardly a second mortgage. Also if you have a PS3 its even cheaper, just an amp and some speakers.

Now stop reading the Huffington Post and watch some Blu Rays!

I agree, most stores do not sell the new blu catalogue releases and they usually have to be bought via the internet. Judging by one store not selling many blus is sooooo darn ludicrous.

It's an opinion piece and the opinion is wrong.

My opinion, whether right or wrong, is that there's nothing in the preorder section of Amazon to suggest that Blu-ray is even dying, never mind dead.

His findings say more about HMV.

All talk and no substance, hardly surprising coming from a guy who was involved with a film called "Strippers vs Werewolves"

What a horribly thought out argument. Using a sample of one in such a market that includes online stores, retail stores and supermarkets to name a few. On top of there being no real data to back up his argument.

My nearest HMV (Bromley) has always had a pathetically small Blu-ray selection. I asked them recently if there were any plans to expand it, and the mook behind the counter said 'no, because no-one's buying them'. Make of that what you will.

I would like the author of the article to get me a mint copy of Iron Man Futureshop steelbook for under a tenner.

Maybe if he floats his copy on eBay he will change his mind.
