Default Onkyo TX-SR506 Problem - Help appreciated

Last night, my Onkyo stopped recognizing the PS3 or the Cable Box etc...

Has the reciever died or is there something I am doing wrong? Things are expensive and really not wanting to replace it unless I absolutely have to.

Cheers.

I assume both were hooked up via HDMI? If so, Onkyo has developed an extremely bad rep for their HDMI boards failing prematurely over the past year or two.

yes, onkyo has had a problem with some of their hdmi boards, i've had two replaced in two different onkyo devices, one receiver, one pre-amp. they were however, very good about replacing them as both were out of warranty so i'll give them high marks for the customer service and resolving them at no cost to me.

having said that, have you tried plugging the two devices in different hdmi inputs? if so, were the results the same? if they yield the same results, then you probably need to contact onkyo customer support. is the receiver in or out of warranty? i don't think it will be an issue if it's out of warranty, as i'm sure they will cover it to replace the board.

keep us posted.

Glad to hear Onkyo is taking care of their customers outside the warranty for their HDMI board failures. I've been planning on upgrading my 6 year old Denon to something more current. And Onkyo has been the front runner, as they seem to pack the most in for the price. I've been looking mostly at the 929, which is believed to have finally addressed the HDMI board failures. But, that gives me a bit better peace of mind.

yep, my pre-amp as you can see is the 5507 and it's 2009 and they replaced the board for me! the receiver (which i gave to my daughter after it was fixed) was the 509. both have been working perfectly since their repairs.

in both cases, the video still worked perfectly, however, the audio was completely gone.

keep us posted with whatever brand/model receiver you decide to go with.
