Default Back To School (1986)/Easy Money (1983) coming from VEI

Quote:
Back to School
Rodney Dangerfield (Caddyshack) stars in the Extra-Curricular Edition of this uproarious college classic “sure to be cherished by all his fans” (Los Angeles Times). “A good-natured potpourri of gags, funny bits, populist sentiment and anti-intellectualism.” (The New York Times). Thornton Melon’s (Dangerfield) life isn’t making the grade. His wife’s a sleazy socialite, he made his fortune being “Tall and Fat” and he never even got a high school diploma. So when he finds his unhappy and unpopular son about to quit college, the solution to all Melon’s problems becomes clear…enroll at the school himself! But as the flamboyant father struggles to aid his son, he can’t help becoming the college cool kid as he turns the university.

FEATURING: RODNEY DANGERFIELD, SALLY KELLERMAN, BURT YOUNG, KEITH GORDON, ADRIENNE BARBEAU, ROBERT DOWNEY, JR, SAM KINNESON, AND NED BEATTY AS DEAN MARTIN

Easy Money
Rodney Dangerfield gets a load of respect and a chunk of change in easy money! Joined by Joe Pesci and Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dangerfield is outrageous as a working-class buffoon who takes on first-class tycoons in this million-dollar comedy!

Monty Capuletti (Dangerfield) has everything money can't buy, a loving wife, two devoted daughters, and a few things it can do: he drinks, smokes, gambles and eats way too much! but Monty couldn't be happier especially when he learns that his mother-in-law has left him a hefty inheritance. There's just one catch: according to the will, he must turn his vices into virtues before he can turn his windfall into cold, hard cash! Nw, the misbehaving Monty will have to put the brakes on the binging and trade his lifestyle for a lifecycle or lose his one shot at the family fortune forever!

FEATURING: RODNEY DANGERFIELD, JOE PESCI, GERALDINE FITZGERALD, CANDY AZZARA, AND JENNIFER JASON LEIGH

2 of Rodney's best for sure, but yeah the 4:3. unless its the TV cut of Easy Money which would be heavily edited.

I've got Back to School, but have been hoping that Easy Money would pop again somewhere. Was also hoping that it would be an improvement over the Shout edition. May have only gotten half my hopes.

Yeah probably a typo. I have been hoping these movies would get re-released by a boutique label who would do new 2K scans (and include the Easy Money deleted scene as an extra) but I have a feeling this double feature blu-ray will just use the existing HD masters. It isn't terribly encouraging (or surprising) that VEI apparently can't even get the basic specs correct.

If it is 1.85 (or 1.78 even) I'm in because I've wanted to see Back to School for awhile now. Also hopefully Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, or LPCM, not Dolby Digital like the majority of their releases seem to have.

Yeah these are great movies (along with Caddyshack). I wish Rodney would have made more movies in the 80s.

Not sure I have confidence in this being a quality release, but I do love me some Rodney!

Judging from the 4:3 aspect ratio i'm guessing they are not even using the HD masters. Both titles have been airing on cable and streaming in the proper aspect ratio.

Man that's one terrible spine to boot. They can't even get the names of the titles on there?

Pretty disappointing indeed. I too would have been happy just to get a new 2K scan from the IP with decent encoding. Fingers crossed Shout or someone else does it at some point.

Did anyone buy this? I'm just wondering about the quality. The website now says 1:85:1 and 4:3.

The DVD is probably 4:3. Putting a Blu-ray out of a Widescreen movie in 4:3 these days your not moving many copies that's for sure. I doubt the Blu-ray is 4:3.

I'd rather just get a new transfer for Back To School.

Watched Easy Money tonight and I can confirm that you are correct that the blu ray is not 4:3 but full 1.85:1.

The DVD is also full screen.

This is true for both movies.

To each his own. I can live without Back To School. Easy Money is my Rodney. I loved it when I saw it at the theatre and I loved it tonight.
