France Dressed to Kill (Brian De Palma)

Dressed to Kill Blu-ray

Coming later this year from Carlotta Films.

The cover art is not yet definitive, but I think this image quite brilliant:

[Show spoiler]

Note that the DVD is a double-disc set, so it looks like there will be some additional content on this release, though I have no idea if it would be English-friendly.

From the info I received today, it would appear that this specific cover is indeed the final one, not a temp:

Some details are emerging regarding bonus features, however, these are not confirmed by Carlotta as yet:

Quote:
Carlotta has not yet officially announced the content of Blu-Ray Blow Out and [Dressed to Kill] But Film Factory, A German company in charge of a portion of bonus announced on its website some valuable information. New interviews were shot with Vilmos Zsigmond (Blow Out), Angie Dickinson ([Dressed to Kill]), Keith Gordon ([Dressed to Kill]), Producer George Litto (both films) and Nancy Allen on the two films.
Laurent Bouzereau product more supplements MGM in South 2001 [Dressed to Kill], Who had unfortunately never crossed the Atlantic, and Criterion in turn, has produced several supplements on Blow Out last year including a one-hour interview with Brian de Palma absolutely fascinating. Interventions Douchet Jean and Samuel Blumenfeld are also provided on disk Carlotta. Released on November 21. [Dressed to Kill] will be presented in its entirety, as seen in theaters in France. French dvd proposed the American censored version.

There are also screencaps (apparently from the new interviews) at the link.

I strongly dislike this cover

I find it poor, and lame at the same time.

Extras:

Quote:
BD 50 • MASTER HAUTE DÉFINITION
1080/23.98p • ENCODAGE AVC
Version Originale DTS-HD MA 5.1 & 1.0
Version Française DTS-HD MA 1.0
Sous-Titres Français • Format 2.35 respecté • Couleurs
Durée du Film : 105 mn

SUPPLÉMENTS (EN HD)

. PRÉFACE DE SAMUEL BLUMENFELD (8 mn)

. SYMPHONIE DE LA PEUR (17 mn)

. BANDE-ANNONCE
From what I can gather, it sounds like most, if not all of the extras will be English-friendly, because the participants would all be speaking English. The only thing I'm not sure about is the Preface with Samuel Blumenfeld, as I don't know who he is.

In any event, barring a major flaw in the A/V presentation, this should be the definitive release of the film thus far, and I will certainly be ordering a copy.

We will have a review for it soon (our screener is in transit). Also, it appears that the release will be using a very different transfer.

Region-1 friendly? And will the existing DTK features from the U.S. DVD/Blu be included?

I'm guessing there will be no forced subs on this, I have Carlotta's Mean Streets which was totally Eng friendly.

Already got MGM's DTK and Criterion's Blow Out but think I'll be grabbing these too.

Would love to hear some thoughts on these two.
I viewed Dressed to Kill this morning. Overall, it is definitely a better package when compared to the U.S. release.

The transfer is apparently different, but it must have been sourced from the same MGM master that was used for the U.S. release. The extras are fantastic. The video interviews are very, very informative. Really liked the one with Angie Dickinson. The release comes in a black case.

Good thing I ordered Dressed to Kill just now...I was very close to pre-ordering it, but all the Carlotta titles seem to drop to EUR 15.99 right after release...

EDIT: Seeing what they did with this film, I would love to see Carlotta get Raising Cain and do some new interviews for that film. I know its thought to be one of De Palma's lesser films, but I like it a lot, and John Lithgow (playing three roles) is absolutely superb in it.

It's just a bit sad that the extras of the MGM haven't been ported to the Carlotta disc. I would have made a definitive edition.

Yes, but the extras on the MGM disc (I have the DVD) were only "OK" as I recall, and it seems some of the content has been duplicated and enhanced anyway (the Keith Gordon featurette, the comparison of versions, the trailer), so about the only thing missing from this release is Brian De Palma and the Making Of documentary. I have to say, I don't think you're missing anything by not having the MGM extras.

Pro B - What studio logos open the French edition? I love how Criterion's Blow Out has the Filmways Pictures logo.
