Anime Trailer

Quote:
Compile Heart and Sting's collaborative game, Date A Live, is headed to the PlayStation 3. The news was confirmed via the game's official Twitter account a few hours ago.

Date A Live is based on a light novel series authored by Koshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako.

Compile Heart are known primarily for their work on the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, Mugen Souls, Touch Shot! Love Application, Megazone 23: Aoi Garland, Rosario Vampire, Black Cat, Hell Girl, Record of Agarest War and Cross Edge. Meanwhile, Sting are recognized for games such as Baroque, Knights in the Nightmare, Riveria, Hexyz Force, Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection, Dokapon Kingdom, Yggdra Union and Gungnir.

Anime version will air in April.

Compile Heart and Sting are working on a PlayStation 3 game based on the Date A Live anime series. Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is a spirit capturing adventure game.

Date A Live: Rinne Utopia will have original date events designed by series writer Koshi Tachibana. Toka Yatogami, Kotori Itsuka, and Origami Tobiichi are confirmed to be in the game. Players will be able to see perfectly recreated scenes in the PS3 game. Date A Live: Rinne Utopia also has a brand new character named Rinne.

What's unclear about Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is how the game plays. Sting, maker of Hexyz Force and Ygddra Union, is listed as the developer and Sting usually designs games with unique gameplay systems like moving a wisp around to reanimate dead knights. Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is slated for release this summer.

The full title of Compile Heart and Sting's collaborative game was announced as Date-A-Live: Rinne Utopia, where you'll be taking part of a different kind of war… known as dating.

The main character, Shido Itsuka, is a young high school student with a supernatural ability of being able to seal spiritual powers in his body. There are mysterious girls who possess certain powers within their spirits, that cause a phenomena known as 'spacequake'. These spacequakes have been claiming the lives of millions of people around Eurasia, and it's up to Shido to stop them. The only way he can seal a seal their powers is by making them fall in love with him.

Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is going to feature all of the characters from Koshi Tachibana and Tsunako's light novel series, with an additional game exclusive character named Rinne Sonogami.

Rinne is a childhood friend of Shido's, who appears out of nowhere one day. “Good morning, Shido. I've been waiting for you… a long time.” were the first words she spoke upon their reunion. From that point on, she follows our spirit sealing hero on a daily basis. She has an easy going personality and often likes to meddle in Shido's affairs.

Date A Live: Rinne Utopia is slated to be released sometime in summer of 2013, for PlayStation 3.

North American Anime distributor Funimation announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the streaming rights to the Date A Live television anime series. Funimation will stream the series on Fridays starting on April 12 at 1:30 p.m. EDT.

Kōshi Tachibana's original light novel series centers on a boy named Shidō Itsuka who meets a spirit girl who has been rejected by a devastated world. The girl, who Shidō names "Tohka," happens to have wiped out much of humanity 30 years ago, and now she is back. The only way to stop her is to date her.

Keitaro Motonaga (Getbackers, Jormungand) is directing the anime at AIC PLUS+ with visual director Hisashi Saito (Haganai, Heaven's Lost Property). Hideki Shirane (Hayate the Combat Butler, Queen's Blade: Rebellion) is charge of the series scripts, and Takaaki Suzuki (Strike Witches, Last Exile) is advising on the world setting, as he has done other anime and manga. Satoshi Ishino (Excel Saga, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu) is designing the characters based on Tsunako's original novel illustrations. Mika Akitaka (Martian Successor Nadesico, Galaxy Fraulein Yuna) is designing the mecha, and Go Sakabe (Gosick theme songs) is scoring the soundtrack with sound director Yasunori Ebina (A Certain Magical Index, Naruto) at Nippon Columbia.

Other cast members include Nobunaga Shimazaki, Kaori Sadohara, Misato, Iori Nomizu, and Aya Endo.

Game developer Compile Heart began streaming the Anime Contents Expo (ACE) promotional video for its Date A Live ~Rinne Utopia~ video game for PlayStation 3. All of the cast from the anime adaptation of Koushi Tachibana's light novel series will be returning for this "spirit-capturing adventure" game. In addition, Kana Hanazawa (Kobato., Sketchbook ~full color'S~) will play the new titular character Rinne.

Tachibana's light novel series centers on a boy named Shidō Itsuka who meets a spirit girl who has been rejected by a devastated world. The girl, who Shidō names "Tohka," happens to have wiped out much of humanity 30 years ago, and now she is back. The only way to stop her is to date her.

The "spirit-capturing" game allows the player to interact with all of the heroines in a school setting. According to a teaser by the light novels' publisher Enterbrain, players can also go beyond the date, and even see their love interest as a pregnant wife in the future after marriage.

The game will ship on June 27. The anime premiered this month, and Funimation is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan.

Sigh @ Japan. Yeah, I know this is sort of Compile Heart's thing to do, but it doesn't make it any easier for the Japanese game industry to shed its reputation for being out of touch with the rest of the world with games like this.

Well there are people like me who love and enjoy them. To companies like Compile Heart, that's enough to satisfy them. Plus they're working with Sting on this game and that there's an Anime version that just recently started airing.

Visual Novels, RPGs, music rhythm, fighting, and shoot 'em up games are important for Japan. Personally for me I think it's America and Europe who are the odd ones out and just focusing on all of these FPS and the hack and slash games

And this refutes my point in what way?

Compile Heart has a right to make whatever they like, and you're welcome to buy it if you so choose.

Speaking as someone who literally grew up with a video game industry dominated by Japanese developers, it pains me to see this segment of the Japanese game development industry turn itself into an echo chamber. One that caters to a dwindling fanbase who demand this sort of recycled hash, too scared of change or innovation, and too scared that their fanbase will rebel if they take even half a step away from "the formula".
