Default Which Movies to buy ? Which to avoid ?

Does anyone have any recommendations on which Blu-Ray Movies, that are out now, to purchase ? and those to avoid ? I'd appreciate your input, hopefully based upon actual viewing.

Jim

From my viewing experience, the only movies i'd avoid are

HOFD-unless like me you love the film and love the audio
Hitch-Although not as bad as I expected, not beautiful either
TFE- being that a remaster one is already in talks, I'd hold off

Everything else looks either

pretty good, great or excellent!

Thanks Brian. I'm waiting on the Sony Blu-Ray Player and decided to acquire several of the Blu-Ray Movies releases before I buy the Player. If the BDP-S1 does not have HDMI 1.3 spec's on this first player, I'll wait until the first quarter 2007 for their second generation which will have the HDMI 1.3 spec's. I just wish I knew if the Pioneer Elite Unit will have HDMI 1.3 !!! I may buy it. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

Again, thanks Brian. I appreciate it.

Jim

Hi Jim!

I personally don't own a BR player yet. Have been on the fence waiting for the BDP-S1 myself. I've seen what i've seen through the player at work and my room mates BDP-1000.

This is my collection so far,

provenflipper (room-mate) also has these titles and more in his personal collection.

I'll be adding more titles every week (3 this tuesday) and continue to do so until october as it's easier to spread it over several months than make one lump purchase in october when i buy the BDP-S1.

I wouldn't hold your breath on HDMI 1.3 and quite honestly you wont need it for several years. If you already have a Receiver you enjoy and a TV you like, the BDP-S1 will do all the audio decoding you need in player and the TV's with 1.3 and receivers wont be out until well into 2007 and i'm sure at a premium.

Right now, ps3 is the only scheduled player to be 1.3

Yeah I think 1.3 isn't a huge issue yet and especially not until speciality manufactur's start churning it out in recievers.

acceptance of 1080p over HDMI and HDMI 1.3 have to be the most overhyped (aside from codec wars) thing of all time around these parts.

1080p is super super overhyped when most people can't notice the difference.

1080p reminds me of megapixels in cameras. It's all the Industry creating a false need among consumers.

i wouldn't go that far. really, especially to us tech geeks, it's all about having the latest and greatest. my t.v. is "only" 34" and displays "only" 1080i. will 1080p make a difference at that size? if it does, i will have to run out and buy a new t.v.

now, is it a need if you have a 100" screen? you might say so. so between the super nerds and people with huge screens, there is a consumer need. it just isn't there for the average person (yet anyway). but for the sizes of most ordinary people with their 45" screen, you'd be hard pressed to see a difference.

exactly unless your getting a big screen with a projector IMO 1080p isn't going to be a huge difference. Color acurracy and scaling are much more important.
