Default Can PS3 go 1.1 or even 2.0 ???

I purchased a PS3 and have been ecstatic with it as a Blu-ray movie player. I was wondering, can PS3 be upgraded via firmware to become profile 1.1 or eventually 2.0 compliant?

Yes, we expect a firmware update enabling profile 1.1 sometime soon. In the insiders thread, it was said that once it's 1.1, it's also 2.0 compliant and should be easy enough to make it fully 2.0 with another software update.

pretty much anything that has been released to date. there are rumors about 1 or 2 players currently out, but we won't know until announced.

So no players to date are going to be compatible with 1.1+???

That seems kind of odd.

I do hope that's not true, but we'll just have to wait and see.

The 1.1 features requires hardware that until recently just wasn't available.
So it just may be that all of the current standalones will not be upgradeable.

The PS3 by virtue of basically being a software based player should be upgradeable since you just need to emulate any missing hardware via software.
You just can't do that with a standalone.

I thought pip wasn't that important here anyway.

EDIT: some possible good news.
