United Kingdom The "Dollars" Trilogy

With the imminent release of TGTB&TU remastered disc, I feel now is the right time to upgrade from my dvd's.

Could you please advise as to which are the best region B blu's to get for the other two titles. I know it has been debated on here many times before, but I cannot find a definitive choice.

Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Firstly, you probably don't need to be worried about regions - the new ones will almost certainly be region free.

Secondly, the best thing to do at the moment is wait.

TGTBATU is definitely a new 4K scan. In the US this is coming out in a boxed set with all 3 films, in the UK it's just the last of the 3 in a steelbook (and it's not 100% certain the steelbook is the new 4K scan, unless I've missed confirmation, although it probably will be).

It's possible the new first two will be from new scans. It's possible they're the old scan, but pre-digital tinkering. It's possible they're the versions used on the better European releases. It's possible they're identical to the current US/UK versions.

As you've waited this long, I suggest a wait of just a few more weeks is probably worth it.

At this stage no one is absolutely certain of the contents of the forthcoming US box beyond TGTBATU being 4k remastered. At the moment the best value for the first two are the German editions as both are less than €9 each on Amazon.de. The German edition of Fistful is slightly darker than the Italian version http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...iID=82#auswahl The UK and US versions are rubbish as they are zoomed. Few Dollars More is the same for PQ in US/UK and Germany but the German contains nearly a minute of footage missing from the other editions though for some inexplicable reason the post credits card "Where life had no meaning" is in German (it was in English on the German DVD). Fistful is being shown at Cannes in a new 4K restoration so I suspect there will be a new edition but I've no idea when.

German AFOD looks noticeably better than the UK one. 2 minutes was enough to convince me, wasn't difficult to spot the difference.

I cant see the first two films getting a remaster in that new set - there has not even been a hint of this actually happening anywhere and everyone seems pretty resigned to the fact that only TGTBTU is getting the remaster.

I'm importing the German disc for FAFDM and importing the Italian disc for FOD. Then picking up the UK steelbook for GBU. I'm sure the steelbook is the 4k remastered.

AFOD was just announced as having a newly restored 4K screening at Cannes so I'd advise waiting on that title until it's clear which territories will be the first to receive that new remaster on Blu.
