Todd Field about to drop another masterpiece on us. I fell over the moon with In the Bedroom and Little Children when they were released. I may actually go to the cinema for this. His first two films were too excellent for this to be anything but a must see.

This was excellent and will certainly be a front-runner for multiple categories come awards season. Blanchett is on fire. I don't know if I would say it is better than Blue Jasmine, but it is absolutely one of her best performances. The script is really well written. It is very topical and there is a good amount of humor. My only real complaint is the run time is a bit too long. They probably could've trimmed around 15-20 mins off.

Quick question:
Will this be available on VOD in 17 days?
Last year, Universal released "Belfast" shortly after the limited theatrical release, so I was wondering if they were doing the same thing for "Tár" (even though I think what they did to "Belfast" completely killed its box office potential).

It is a slow roll out and it expands nationwide on 10/28, I believe. After that, yes, it could be PVOD after 17 days (it's not a $50+mil opener).

Yeah, they could, but I’m guessing they will hold it in theaters for longer, given the rollout and that it’s a prestige film/awards contender (they also waited a bit longer with Nope despite a sub $50 million opening).

Other than feeling a bit long towards the end, it’s basically a perfect movie, expect a Best Picture nomination and a good shot at winning Best Actress.
