Default Tekken Revolution is Free-To-Play

Quote:
Namco Bandai have announced Tekken Revolution, a free-to-play Tekken game for the PlayStation 3, which will allow you to play as eight characters from the series for no charge.

Tekken Revolution will allow you to play either against CPU opponents or online against other players. The game also has new Special Arts and Critical Arts moves that are designed to aid newcomers pull off hard-hitting attacks.

Additionally, you’ll also be able to level up your characters with three stats—Strength, Endurance and Vigor—to create a specially-tuned fighter focusing on offense or defense.

It's not too shabby so far. I mean, it is free.

I'm an Old School/New Fan of Mortal Kombat (read: played Mk1-3 in the day, bought Mortal Kombat 2011 day of release) so how do the Tekken games compare to it's rival franchise? Never played any of them...

I wouldn't really call it a rival of Mortal Kombat because of how different in nature they are. But it's a good standard fighting series. Controls are pretty simple to understand unlike some other fighting games where you have to press a bunch of buttons on your controller just for 1 attack.

I guess you could say it's like a fighting series for people who haven't played fighting games before or at least for people who just want something a little more simpler.

My King laughs at your "something a little more simpler" comment.

But seriously, sure, you can button mash any fighter, and in Tekken maybe you'll get a few moves in that are a part of a ten hit, but if you've ever seen anyone play Tekken who actually knows what they're doing, let's just say you wouldn't call it, "a fighting series for people who haven't played fighting games before".

Are you sure you're not thinking of Dead Or Alive?

Nah Tekken is easier than Dead Or Alive and easier controls.

I went at it with one of the female characters. The combat was a little stiff, but overall it was pretty cool.

oh my bad. That's super lame. I know that theres an arcade mode in addition to online mode. Seems odd that you have to be online to access the single player portion.

Yeah, I downloaded it day 1, and was working just on arcade mode, and I happened to get signed out. Low and behold you have to be signed it, and better yet, it obviously counted as me using one of those tokens

It's probably because you get all of those bonuses for logging in each day, which probably somehow uses the PSN.

Because this quote is in direct conflict with how it plays.

I've played Tekken since Tekken 2 on PS1 and played almost every game in the series. I also have 100% trophies in Tekken Revolution.

Not trying to stir things up, I'm just truly baffled by your comments seeing as you were the originator of this thread.

I downloaded and tried Tekken Revolution this morning. I like it, but with the play being token based, I wonder why you aren't shot out of lobbies when you run out of multi-player tokens. Tons of waiting for players to time out.

Also, if this morning was any indication, lobbies marked 'Beginners Only' are there to attempt to lure unsuspecting newbs in for an easy win.
