Default The Last of Us vs. Bioshock Infinite

Simple question: which is the better overall game? I voted for The Last of Us because simply stated... it's one of the best games I've ever played and I go back to the Atari days.

I agree!! Phenomenal game!! Nobody does storytelling like NaughtyDog!! IMO....they are the best gaming studio out right now when it comes to production values!! A 10 out of 10!!!

Bioshock Infinite for me, because while The Last of Us is a great game, Bioshock Infinite is a great experience. The plot is truly unpredictable, the world is fresh, engaging and exciting and the storytelling is profoundly subtle, plus the action set pieces where wonderfully constructed. Plus at the end of the day, I struggled to put down Bioshock Infinite as I played it but had no problems putting down The Last of Us.

Both have their flaws, but Bioshock Infinite's flaws are more ignorable and just plain funny (Dumpster Hot Dogs anyone) while in The Last of Us, you'll have Ellie walk straight past an enemy and tension will be broken because of the game's completely serious tone.

I think The Last of Us is an extremely profound game that deserves to be played to show how mature emotions and character stories can be told, but Bioshock Infinite shows that videogames are a completely different way to tell stories.

At the end of the day it comes down to two things that the player will want:

Bioshock Infinite - Themes and complex story.
The Last of Us - Emotions and complex characters.

The Last of Us will ultimately win the poll because the game is flash in a pan right now (plus we're on quite a Sony centric forum), but a few years down the line, I believe the polls will level up.

(And no, that's not me saying people are wrong, I just believe there's a whole hoopla around The Last of Us at the moment that'll carry through the poll)

Regardless, very exciting times we live in for gaming, these two games and a new GTA game coming out makes this one of the best years in gaming for ages, and that's not even including Next Gen.

Bioshock Infinite is one of my top 5 games of this generation. That said, The Last of Us may be the best game I've ever played. The gameplay could have used a little more tweaking but the story and characters are miles ahead of every other video game.

There certainly is a big hoopla around TLoU right now and it will die down in a few months but I'm convinced it'll still be viewed as the best game of the generation.

Only at about 75% in TLOU.. but man, what a ride.

One of the best games I have both ever played and experienced.

Imo, it has Uncharted 2 beat by a mile ( and I know that saying that could get me in trouble )

For me, it ranks way up there with my "all times" best gaming expriences alongside:

- My first videogame ever (Tennis on a B&W TV in the late 70s)
- My first Arcade Videogame (Side Scrolling Defender in the early 80s)
- My first RPG videogame on Personal Computer (Mandragore, on French comptuer TO7)
- My first 3D Arcade Game (Star Wars - Wireframe 3D)
- My first pseudo 3D RPG (Dungeon Master)
- My first Flight Sim with filed 3D vectors (F18 Interceptor on Amiga)
- Cinematic Games (Defender of the Crown and others from Cinemaware - Amiga)
- Modern side scrolling shooter with R-Type (Amiga)
- First Deep RPG (Lands Of Lore - Amiga)
- First Star Wars fighter sim in full 3D (X-Wing on PC)
- First scary FPS (Doom - PC)
- My first fantasy RTS (Warcraft, later the imo best yet Warcraft 2 - PC)
- My first Zelda (Ocarina - Nintendo 64)
- Half Life, and later Half life 2 as one of my all time best (PC)
- My first Open world RPG experience (MMO - Everquest - PC)
- Realm vs Realm battle with more than a hundred players engaged in siege warfare (Dark Age of Camelot - PC)
- Deepest PC RPG experiences yet: Baldur's Gate 2 and Skyrim
- Best Stealth Combat game experience (MGS4 - PS3)

And now ... The Last of US

Here's to hoping that the remaining 25% will not ruin this feeling, but I doubt it

Last of Us all the way. Bioshock Infinite was great, but it's more of the same of Bioshock for me. And the story, while good, was far more predictable.

Last of Us was so refreshing and new that it isn't just GOTY, but one of the best games ever made.

My goodness, Skyrim is a great game, but a deep rpg experience? The very notion is hilarious.

hands down TLOU - Naughty Dog have just made the better game in every aspect. I wouldnt even call it a fair contest.

Bioshock was bland for me! ive done it all before in the first two games, visually it looks nice but it just seemed lazy, and the story was the weakest of the three. massive dissapointment for me.

I also just didnt care for the characters in any shape or form and saw the ending coming before I even got there. I wont be continuing with this franchise any more.

struggled to finish the game as It was dull, traded it in very fast.

the first bioshock being the best experience of all three for myself.

This pretty much echoes how I feel.

I beat the game on Sunday morning, and since then I have realized more and more how amazing a gaming experience it was, to the point that I'm not sure I've played a better game this generation. I had/have plans to sell it, but each day passing makes me reconsider hanging on.

last of us is a 10/10 for the story and 7/10 for gameplay

bioshock infinite is about a 7/10 story and 7.5/10 gameplay for me

Wasn't that intentional by the programmers though so as not to irritate the player?

Her AI can be to hold back though and stay hidden, not run around in plain sight. Would I prefer it if she kept getting your cover blown? Hell no, but you still have to just over look it.

Only about 50% through Last of Us, but I would say BioShock so far.

However, I played BioShock on the PC. Therefore my experience was different from those who played on the ps3.

I'm not done with The Last of Us yet, but even halfway through the game it's already a better game than Bioshock Infinite was. The characters are more likable and "real", the world-building is equally good, the combat mechanics are WAY better in The Last of Us.

One big, big negative for Bioshock Infinite was the almost casual attitude towards ultra-violence. Skyhook executions were a major turn-off for me, and felt very tacky and out of flavor, to the detriment of the overall game feel.

Based on what I've seen and heard Infinite is a game of immense vision and passion. I have high respect for it.

To think in one year we got The Last Of Us, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, and soon Beyond: Two Souls. As someone who plays games to get lost in their story, the future of gaming is more exciting to me now than it's been in a long time.

Grand Theft Auto games tend to have great fun stories as well (although I'm actually still doubtful we'll get five from the lack of footage we've seen). And we've got The Walking Dead expansion coming soon as well.
