Well, if you read the box just below all the logos (i.e. Dolby, BBC) you will see:

"Due to the difficulty in filming in some habitats, a small percentage of the footage has not been filmed in full HD."

Did it take up the entire bottom of the tv?

Did it start from the very bottom of the screen and go up? If so, approx. how tall?

Was it just black and white?

I read some planet earth reviews that complain of posterization. I've never watched the show so I couldn't say for sure if it's true.

Default Planet Earth high def issue

hey guys!

do you also have slight "banding" during the bbc hd intro on your planet earth disc as well as in the main menu?

the blue background in the main menus - does it go from dark blue to the lighter blue without lines seperating the different color nuances?

is it a problem with my tv set?
what tvs(model) do you have and do or don't you have the same problem as i do?

it's a little like a mixture between the two images on the right:

please forgive my english writing - i'm no native speaker.....

It is the disc, this problem was well discussed before, there are also more problem with flickering on some scenes from the helicopter and the bbc response was that it was from the helicopter transmitter interfered with the camera, this disc was good but far from perfect as some reviewers led you to believe, heck some scene like the aligator eating the wilderbeast was so soft it look like upconvert from SD camera, btw exact same problem with HD DVD cuz of the same encode and source.

was wondering why on disc 2 in the desert night seen with some little rodent creatures...you could see pixelation.

looked like crap. then i fast forwarded to another scene with no problems.

makes sense now if they used an SD camera.

you have to remember that planet earth includes both HD and SD DVD elements, so at times the picture does look off as its taken from an SD source.

also an LCD based display will exaggerate the banding/graduation (same with plasma).
