United Kingdom H.O.T.D - High School of the Dead - Manga UK (Blu-ray) 29th August 2011

Price: £24,99
Release Date: 29th August, 2011

Amazon UK - Link

I was thinking about pre-ordering this anime, it has zombies, looks pretty good, has basically what I'd like to see in an action series but is it worth as a blind buy? I never saw this so.. blind buy confidently?

By the way, no slipcover neither with this one? As it looks like there'll be none, well, I don't mind it but I'd like it.

Thanks.

I asked on Twitter if there would be a slipcover and they said no. I got it this morning and obviously there was no slip. It's a pretty good series. A hell of a lot of pervy upskirt shots ( ) and extremely large, unrealisticly bouncy boobs ( )

The price was a bit steep for 12 episodes but thats about my only problem

As always MangaUK have locked the Disc to Region B.

Here are some scans I took.

I've somewhere that this cut or there are other versions out there. I'm not familiar with the series, do you know if this cut/uncut?

I don't know if it's cut. The running time is 322min. Theres full frontal female nudity and plenty of upskirt shots of the school girls lol So I don't know why they would cut other stuff and leave all that in.

Say, is the opening/ending text in its original Japanese or translated to English?

It's in Japanese with part english text, but I belive thats how it was in Japan, as there is an all english credit roll after each episode as well as the japanese one.

Oh, it's in English, not in Kanji, oh well no prob.

Would've preferred in its original Japanese cards.

No, it's Kanji with some english text, so I guess it's the proper japanese opening. It's the same as this.

Thanks!

Pre-ordered HSotD from Manga UK (@ Zavvi), because I expect the price to increase a bit even more (£30) than it already is.

Did they use US's BD as their source or directly from Japan?

US Anime Blu-rays tend to get its text translated to English, at least with FUNimation it does.

I belive it's exactly the same as the US Sentai Filmworks BD The only diffrence is the trailers in the special features on disc 2. I actually did a big review of the disc but forgot to enter a title and clicked next, and an error page poped up saying I had to enter a title but when I went back it had erased everything I had typed

After the review here I wasn't going to get it. I was this close to cancelling my order at Amazon UK. Then I said stuff it. Zombies and hot chicks. What wouldn't I like about that...

Hmm... The fact it leaves you begging for more!!!

I really want the OVA now

Needs a whole new season too! 12 episodes just isn't enough!

Oh and they need to tone down the size of the breasts a little, there a bit too big and bouncy, takes away from the realism

Yeah, I just read the volume 1 Manga omnibus (http://www.bookdepository.com/Highsc.../9780316201049). Frigging huge, and awesome. Probably the best put together manga I've read in a long time. The colour was awesome.

I"m just watching the amine now finally, and it is nearly as good.

I agree the huge breasts are a little silly, and honestly not too appealing to me personally, but I can see how a lot would like it.

I just can't understand the negativity against the series honestly. Especially that comicon panel naming it the worst manga of the year. You'd have to be either some sort of prude, or one of those pretend prudes who makes a public show of decrying naughtiness while privately enjoying it... Like that "New Statesman" episode... Political correctness be damned. Even taking the jangly bits and panty shots out, I'd seriously enjoy it about 98% just as much. It is a good story, good bunch of characters, good action, good direction, and good pacing. I want to get the other vol manga now, but I want the hardback colour omnibus format - it is just awesome

You can always check with the bbfc web site. This series is uncut on blu ray as per information from the British Board of Film Classification:

Thanks. There is of course al load of Manga Anime that will never go near the BBFC or be completely shredded before it hits these shores! I guess that was my enquiry; has this been shredded?

Not quite my thing though, shame we lost our anime channel on Sky a few years back!

High School of the Dead WITH Drifters of the Dead is up for pre-order. Only 10 GBP and judging from the Cover comes with blu-ray and dvd versions though it does also say it only comes with 2 BD's. Unless that's just incorrect info based on the previous release or it will be a similar case to Louie's first season blu-ray release in the US where it came as a BD+DVD combo pack but both were on 2 discs. BD on one side and DVD on the other. Who knows. It's not coming out until may and at the ridiculously low price it currently is, I've put my pre-order in just incase.

Already have HOTD, but want the OVA, at £10.49 it looks like I'm double dipping.
