Default PS3 80gb Heat

When laying horizontally, on it's right end (or the top when vertical) there is a spot with no vents that is between 2 sets of vents that almost burns my hand when I touch it. It gets that hot shortly after being turned on with no disc inside or downloading. Is this common?

I dunno dude, my 60gb gets pretty damn hot on the outside while watching a movie or playing a game, but people say that's good because the heat is being released from the system and not being kept inside.

I've never really thought to touch round my PS3 while turned on. I think people are a bit paranoid.

Same here. I load discs and take them out. I don't run my hands all over my PS3. I like it and all, but not that much.

Sorry OP - I'm sure my PS3 gets hot, just never really felt around the PS3 to see about areas other than the front.

My receiver - that gets hot.

Mine gets hot around the same place. i actually put a thermometer on it once while folding. It recorded 90 degrees F highest and then went back to 88 and stayed there all day. This is in a 78 degree room

The manual said the operating temp has a high 95 degrees so, I didn't worry about it.

I think all of us ex-360 owners are overly paranoid due to our prior system breaking on us out of nowhere
