Default WHY IS JAPAN VERY IMPORTANT to the game companies

this is why:

this is as of 06'

the total # of games made for each system

by each platform cycle the number of total games per platform:

1'st playstation 1: 4,917 (after 11 years)
the playstation 2: 4,184 (after 6 years and still going)
the playstation portable: 351 (after 3 years and still going)

http://www.playstation.com/business.html

see a trend.....4,000+ games...

I wonder what Nintendo's total # of games from japanese developers look like... prob. more than even the playstation platforms for their systems...

I wonder what the XBOX system's total # of games from japanese developers look like....

look at the total number of game's so far for each region
than look at the total number of systems sold per region....there is twice as many games made in the japanese and Asian market but only half the total number of systems sold in japan 23 million vs in the North American and Europe markets both 30+ million systems sold ..

now look at total software shipped:

once again japan has the lowest shipped but the highest number of games being made are out of japan...

(1,210) total playstation 2 games for the North America
(1,769) total playstation 2 games for Europe
(4,184) total playstation 2 games for JAPAN and Asian Countries and regions including South KOREA

Japan is the #2 video game market in the world behind the US, on a country-to-country basis (and by a healthy margin, I might add). Since so many video game developers are based in Japan, it's also easiest for them to market product there, since they don't need to do any localization, and they don't have to worry about export tariffs cutting into their bottom line.

I would say it differently.

I would say Japan makes alot more product that appeals to the western audiences than the West makes that appeals to the Japanese audience.

Therefore a console like the PS3, with a western and Japanese catalogue of games, is going to do better than a console that just produces FPS and EA type sports games. Mind you, the PS3 doesn't have that many great games coming out of Japan, even those designed with the Japanese in mind. Historically though, Sony has catered well for the Japanese.

Its not just about numbers either, there is so much quality in Japan its ridiculous.

I wish the same could be said for the US. It's mostly about the numbers here, not the quality.
