Default 'Man Of Steel' Sequel

I think this deserves a thread of its own.

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: This isn’t exactly a surprise given the hot anticipation and theatrical buzz awaiting Man Of Steel‘s limited opening Thursday and wide release Friday in 4,200+ theaters. But I’ve learned it’s official: Warner Bros Pictures is fast-tracking the Superman reboot sequel with its successful twosome already in place: Zack Snyder reprising as director and David S. Goyer repeating as screenwriter. Goyers’ deal is part of a huge 3-picture deal he signed at Warners Bros for Man Of Steel, the sequel, and Justice League with Superman. What is a question mark next time is the role Christopher Nolan will fill. To reimagine this 3rd Superman franchise, Nolan stepped in as producer and mentor and story co-writer. I’m told that next time Nolan’s producer role won’t be as “full blown”. Hey, he’s busy working on other projects and now the sequel is on firm footing just as the first’s 3D and 2D grosses start rolling in. (This isn’t a Green Lantern situation all over again: that pic badly underperformed. No way this one will.) Meanwhile, fanboys are speculating who’ll be the villain/s in this Superman sequel: Brainiac, Bizarro, Metallo, Doomsday, Darkseid, other?

Hopefully, the sequel will revolve around a California earthquake and a lex Luther real estate scheme.

The movie is tracking high, they're already going to have a huge opening, and word of mouth seems pretty good, so I think it's safe to say that a sequel would happened regardless. That said, they did do this with 'Green Lantern' a few years ago, and we saw how that turned out...But I really don't see this movie having that problem.

I just hope we see Brainiac as the villain in the sequel, and I'd love nothing more than to see Benedict Cumberbatch play the character, because he'd absolutely kill in the part.

MOS already has made like 160 mill just from ad partners alone. A sequel was never in doubt if you ask me. I think they are announcing this just to create some more buzz. I like the news though. Can't wait for more Superman. Glad the sequel will be out before Justice league. DC needs to create a universe first.

Forget Brainiac - lead straight to Grannie Goodness (Helen Mirren or Judi Dench) as the lead villain in the second one so that the Justice League movie can lead to Darkseid. When was the last time we saw an old lady lead villain - The Goonies? And Grannie has her ass-kicking female dominatrix goons. Bring in Wonder Woman, Big Bertha, and Batman and it would be an awesome movie.

What could they do with Brainiac anyway - another repetitive Earth invasion movie?

Introduce Lex Luthor, but don't have him be the central villain. Use Brainiac instead, allowing Superman to explore his humanity further, when faced with an antagonist totally divorced from Earth. Also allows for a more intellectual challenge than the more physical Zod will provide, while still having super-fights. Then, upgrade Luthor to main villain for the final film in a trilogy, but instead of having him confront Superman directly (power suit), have him create Bizarro. Introduce Batman in this final film as well, so instead of rebooting Batman again, simply have him introduced as a World's Finest team-up. Batman and Superman vs. Lex Luthor and Bizarro. As the trilogy progresses, include elements that reference the New Gods and Apokolips, ending the third film on a cliffhanger setting up Darkseid's armies invading Earth in Justice League.

I say no Bizarro. I can't imagine 2 Cavill's. When the hero and villain are played by the same actor it rarely works.

Unless that actor is Bruce Campbell.

but I'm up for Brainiac.

Sounds like this will be their big Summer 2015 film, as it sounds like Justice League may be delayed some. Goyer is taking a crack at a script. I think they need to follow Warner and get a few more stand alone films before the JL movie anyways.

I doubt we will see a Kara Zor-El movie unless the DCU filmverse explodes off of Man of Steel, hopefully they will take the success of the Nolanverse as a sign that people want DC characters on the big screen. Want at least a Superman trilogy out of Snyder, a 6 film saga would be great though. So many Superman characters and villains have yet to be done in live action and Snyder is the director to make it happen.
