Default George Clooney blasts hedge fund billionaire Daniel Loeb and his role at Sony

Fantastic article. Clooney talks about how Loeb is putting pressure on Sony to only make "tent pole" films but is upset because After Earth and White House Down tanked at the box office. Very interesting read.

Smurfs 2 is also a big disappointment. Elysium looks solid but it will not lessen the financial blow from the huge flops.

Smurfs 2 is doing awesome business in foreign markets. What does that say about the rest of the world? Check out any of the "cartoon" movies and see how much money they make form the international marketplace.

Yep -- cartoons make disproportionately higher foreign box office (relatively speaking), across the board. So there's no reason to disparage America for watching cartoons.

Apparently, there's these little humans called kids and everybody's got 'em in the world.

I certainly don't. I loathe children.

Well sure, they're probably just getting the series over there.

Actually, Smurfs 2 isn't doing well overseas at all...it's struggling in most markets.

Clooney is a class act. No idea he bet on his own projects by taking a cut of the back end and sacrificing pay up front. Classy move.

Props to him for not being afraid to call people out.

Yeah, well....he also tends to get rather political and certainly falls into the "limousine liberal" category. But, becoming whiny, self-important polticial idealists seems to happen to lots of Holly-wooders. They live like Gods and Godesses but the rest of us are supposed to wathc our carbon footprint and all that crap.

It just seems that: Its OK to be rich as long as you made the money doing movies or music. But, if you made it via a business or god forbid through investing..... you are a scoundrel. Bleh.

I'll bet $20 that Loeb has never even seen Ishtar.
