United Kingdom Dexter in the UK

This is a bit of a weird situation, isn't it?! Dexter S4 is due to be released in the UK in November, but absolutely no sign whatsoever of S1, 2 or 3. What's that about, then?

I have S1 & S2 on DVD but have been holding off on 3 for a while now, as I've upgraded to BD in the meantime, and I thought I'd wait for the BD releases.

Dexter releases in the US are through Paramount who lock their discs to Region A, but they've obviously seen fit to release S4 in the UK despite failing to release anything previously in that format.

Very annoying. They ignore it for years, and when they finally decide to release it in the UK as well, they start from season 4...

And it's really, really expensive as well. It would be cheaper to import the series and pay the VAT and customs charges, a sure sign that something's overpriced. Certainly not going to buy it until they've released the rest and the seasons are closer to £20.

It may not be bad news. I'm just glad a season is being released in HD at all!

I'm hoping it will turn out the same way as the series Supernatural: they started on something like season 4 or 5 and a few months later they're releasing all the previous seasons.

There does seem to be more interest in TV blu-ray after a pretty quiet time with some decent releases coming out soon, so I'm hopeful that they will release the other 3 Dexters in the not too distant future.

I agree they have also done that to LOST. So i really don't see why they wouldn't release season 1-2-3 on blu ray as well

It will all depend on how S4 sells. If good then yes we will see 1,2,and 3. If badly, do not expect the rest any time soon.

... and therein lies the issue. Why would I bother buying S3 on DVD if they're only going to release it on BD months later? Why would I buy S4 on BD without first seeing S3? Who's running this show - clowns?!

Clowns - No

Headless chickens - Yes

So many shows are come and gone without future releases. It would not surprise me if S4 is the one and only season we get in the UK. If Dexter finishes in 3 or 4 years (S7/8) then we may get a complete collection like BSG a couple of years later.

If you can get S3 at a good price on DVD, get it.

yes that would be the paramount clowns the same idiots that have done a piss poor job handling the remastered version by sneaking it in the backdoor so nobody actually knows where you can get it.

Default Dexter Slide Collection Set

Apologies for using this thread but blame the completely useless "Search" facility on this forum which showed this "match" on page 2 of a results list that has sweet fanny adams to do with Dexter.

I just got my slide set from zavvi and opened the box to find that Season 7 disc 2 is just "loose" in the box - not in a plastic "slide carrier" like all the other discs.

I am fuming.

It looks totally lame but no doubt Zavvi will claim this is "intended" or that they have now "sold out".

Has anybody else who received the slide set found there is a disc without a slide carrier supplied in the disc set?

Of course if you try and contact Zavvi you just go round in circles when you click "Missing item" as it asks you to log in (depsite showing you as already being logged in) and then just keeps taking you back to the home page instead of the promised customer support form. Sigh!

That sucks, Zavvi have to be one of, if not the worst company to have to deal with when things like this go wrong.

There are a couple of members who posted in the below thread who ordered the slide set by the looks of it. You could try asking them if their's is the same.

I have got the German bluray complete box set. Plays fine on English. Even has English menus. Only thing I've noticed is that any parts spoken in Spanish don't have English subtitles. Was that always the case?

It's my experience that opting for cheaper European discs can sometimes be false economy but you're probably pretty fine with this German set regardless of your reason to go for it. Looking at dvdcompare.net it appears all have English subs (and also English HoH for seasons 1-3. You may need to toggle them on and off for the Spanish bits if you don't want English throughout, assuming that is what those tracks offer. So if picking English subtitles all dialogue including Spanish then the latter is meant to be translated. Sure, some movies choose not to translate foreign dialogue deliberately (eg Dolph Lundgren's chit-chat in Japanese in Showdown in Little Tokyo). You may need to play around with player settings as sometimes it can be a player-specific issue. For instance I got John Wick on German blu and I had to stick a note in the box to remind myself how to get subs working properly for the Russian bits. If you simply turned off German subs, the Russian dialogue would trigger German subs anyway. There was a trick to getting unlisted English subs depending on player. On my LG I have to pick English Audio on the menu then "Aus" in the menu. After commencing the movie one then had to cycle through the subs on the remote back to "off" otherwise the German subs would trigger just for those bits of Russian. Cycling through the subs with remote made the English subs trigger for Russian bits. On my Philips player, just turning off subs in menu was sufficient.

PS - re:John Wick, I realised after purchase I was missing out on stylised subs by opting for the cheaper German disc. I was also led astray by dvdcompare because it pointed to an additional featurette but it turned out to be in German only. So it was overall a miss for me. John Wick 2 required no messing to get English subs for foreign language bits but again eschewed stylised subs I'd get if I'd gone for uk disc but I didn't want a cut version. Now that I have a uhd player I'll fix this entire JW problem by getting a JW 4K compendium in the future, maybe when #4 comes out (since #2 is uncut on uk 4K)

EDIT: I just rechecked and the English subs are stylised on JW1, it's the German ones that aren't.

according to a quick google, only season 7 is the one with subtitled spanish, the rest is intentionally left to the imagination

on another note was hoping with this new "reboot" season that they would've reprinted season 8 on blu-ray as it and 3 are oddly the hardest ones to come by

I don't get foreign discs due to cost. It's because often it's the only way to get certain movies (or certain cuts of a movie). Or in this case a complete TV show (without resorting to getting a region free player which I've managed just fine without thus far). Some seasons of Dexter are very hard to get on bluray in the UK. But as another user has since mentioned, the Spanish was never subtitled anyway. So I'm not missing anything at all.

I think I got my box set from Italy, when it was good price a couple of years ago. If you're after the box set, it's worth checking all the European Amazon sites as some good offers come up. I'm on season 6 now, & it's brilliant, just like all the others, I'm prepared for season 8, which most people seem to hate, but you never know, I might enjoy it.

I see the Blu-ray of the reboot is down for release in Germany on April 28th, so I'm sure it'll be released over here, but of not I can always import.
