Default Did Disney only make the first Narnia movie?

I recently got two of the Narnia blu rays. I got The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe through Disney Movie Rewards redemption. The blu ray looks like any other Disney disc would and included the points. The other day I bought The Voyage of The Dawn Treader from best buy and its 20th Century fox. Today I ordered Prince Caspian from Amazon which doesn't have any disney logos and what not. So my question is did Disney only make the first film or is there Disney versions of all of them out there? I just find it weird that only the first one is a Disney disc but three films were still released.

Prince Caspian was also attached to Disney, I think.

Prince Caspian is a Disney release as well. Only the 3rd is distributed by Fox.

I'm pretty sure Disney did the first 2. My blu-ray copy of Prince Caspian has the Disney logo on it.

Disney made the first two with Walden Media. They were quite pleased with the first film's box office (released Winter 2005) so they increased the budget for Prince Caspian and tried to position it as a darker adventure film. They alienated the family and Christian fanbase that made the first film such a big hit and the movie ended up grossing $300 million less than the first one. Disney wasn't happy and wanted to cut the budget by of the third movie by about $125 million. Walden Media opted to take the film to Fox to co-produce the The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which was made on a still reduced budget and tried to recapture the family audience they'd lost.

Very informative, thank you for clearing it up!

Voyage of the Dawn Treader's budget was considerably less than $125 million, right? Wasn't it like... $50 million?

I loved Voyage of the Dawn Treader, personally. While I enjoyed the darker tone of Prince Caspian, I really did enjoy going back to the fantastical elements of the first film. Dawn Treader was very underrated.

I just re-watched all 3 movies recently, and enjoyed them as much as ever.

I wish they were making more of them, but I guess there's rights issues, etc. Even if they didn't make Magician's Nephew or Horse and His Boy right now, they should at least do Silver Chair and Last Battle, and then maybe go back and do the other ones.

I also wish Disney would release the extended version of Wardrobe on blu.

Some places report Voyage's budget at a still sizable $140-150 M, about halfway between the $100M Disney wanted to produce it for and the $225M budget of Caspian.

Personally, I quite liked Caspian's darker Narnia. Voyage felt like a different franchise and notably much cheaper. The soap opera-type digital photography didn't help this perception.

I haven't watched them yet. Prince Caspian is coming in on Wednesday, which is my day off so I'm going to marathon them then. Pretty excited because I absolutely loved the books growing up, and have been wanting to watch some fantasy besides Lord of the Rings (which I could never get sick of)

They did Prince Caspian as well. Fox did the Dawn Treader. The series is currently on moratorium until another company picks it up.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe had a $180 million budget and earned $291.7 domestically and $745 million worldwide. This is easily the most widely read and well known book in the series, so its not surprising that it did the best box office.

Prince Caspian had a (foolishly inflated) $225 million production budget and earned $141.6 domestically, $419.6 worldwide. As they so often do, the media declared it a flop based on the early domestic numbers, but in reality it was a money maker.

Voyage had a production budget of $155M. It earned $105M domestically, $415.6M worldwide. Disney had wanted to drop the budget to $100M, which was a key part of the dispute with Walden Media. Fox stepped in, and once again worldwide it did perfectly acceptable numbers.

Walden Media's contract for film rights with the C. S. Lewis estate expired in 2011, and there are currently no plans for more adaptions.
