Maybe make sure you don't have some of the options like 1080p/24 support forced on or some of the other funky hdmi options in the setup.

You have to go throught the set-up instructions to the letter down to the power cord. There is a sequence for everything. You will only be able to check your settings after set-up has been done correctly.

My new PS3 came with 1.50 firmware, so an update check is a good idea. 1.93 is current.

Erm I'm not sure if it was just the game that did it, but when I got ratchet and clank it told me i must update to 1.94, and proceeded to do so. I assumed 1.94 was the current release on the autoupdate.

Yes 1.94 allows rumble functionality although we won't be getting the DualShock3 until sometime next year. You can however import them from some sites in Japan. They have them in both black and white I believe. This update will also allow rumble functionality with PS2 games as well.

Most of the time, when you get this message, it is because of the HDCP handshake. (HDCP Hi Def Copy Protection) This is actually not a common problem with many older HDTV's.

But you say you are using 1080p. What is the model of the TV? Maybe a firmware update for your TV is one possibility. How are you connecting your PS3 to your tv?

DVD's do not have the copy protection requirements that the HD media do, so that is a good explanation as to why your tv is showing your DVD's but not Blu-ray media.

Once I know your set up, I might be able to help you further.

Try turning the 1080p/24 support on your PS3 OFF as some Displays dont support. It can cause you to get a blank screen and your tv will say not supported but you will still hear sound. Let me know if that works!

film is shot at 24fps, and most bluray movies are 1080p/24 fps.

...the ps3 has an option to output blurays at 1080p/24 hz (which is normally set to "on" after the firmware update and is why many people ask why their movie isnt working, when all they have to do is turn it off.)

what is your model number for the tv? and the receiver?

even if your tv is 24hz compatible, your receiver has to also be able to pass the 1080p/24hz.

Your welcome. The 24 thing gives a smoother flow for movies, but there has been much debate and many people say the differance with using it and not using it is so small it does not realy make a differance. There are some folks who do say they see a differance and that 24 is smoother looking. I have seen both and im my honest opinion I really can't see any differance. Your not missing out on anything really. Having a 1080p TV is the most important differance when it comes to picture quality.
