Was an interesting way to do a movie but in the end its not one I will watch again, that said I thought Dogfight was by far the best short with the most emotional impact.

[Show spoiler]The subject is juvenile. It's treatment is original, thoughtful, and hilarious. Some girls may not be embarrassed when farting. According to the director, Japanese girls tend to be very shy about it. He explores the sensitivity of Japanese girls through this lens, as well as through the student doting on her teacher. These two things work in unison to emphasize the theme because the student sees her teacher as good in every way... yet even she must fart. Rather than being disgusted the student wants to experience her teacher's gas. Likely to come to terms with her own experience. When her wish comes true the student says she is happy, because they both have "the same kind of animal smell on the inside."

Animals probably do not care when they fart. But humans, though still animals, are terribly self-conscious. To the point that the most natural aspects of our lives can cause shame. Farting, oil and smells coming out of your pores, masturbation, snorting laughter, and so forth. No matter who you are, everyone is "disgusting" and "inelegant" part of the time. Despite how we yearn to be pure, clean, and noble. F is a lesson in accepting that dichotomy.

Years back in youth group a girl asked our teacher if Jesus got boners. That reminds me of this. The ideal of many faiths is that God is perfect. If true, why would God make us like this? Does God have the same "flaws" or crude functions we do? F asks that question. Although the teacher is the true emblem of divinity. The student worships her and says the teacher watches over her. As they embrace at the end, inside the teacher's ass, she comes to terms with her own struggle of indecency. Her teacher states, "The land of the dead isn't the place for pure and clean things." This means her natural, harmless activities do not make her any less nor do they define her. Also, though we do base things, are minds are meant to go past that. Greatness awaits. Whether it's love, invention, success, or just enjoying life to the fullest. Once we've accepted ourselves, as the animals do, we are free to fully seek and appreciate these things.

yea, i understand the concept of the short movie....that doesnt make it good...pointing out trivial aspects of ones culture is not going to translate to other cultures appreciating it...Japan is much more reserved making the film "edgy"?? but honestly, its just not good overall. it would be no different if the movie was a bout a girl taking a shit...or throwing up...or having their period....yea, we get it. humans do gross things....thanks for pointing them out and making a video about it...a lame one at that

Respectfully disagree. You can't see too much in a film, be too swept up in it's acting, music, or cinematography, and certainly not hold it too dear. The person who gets the most out of art is the victor. They share most closely in the triumph of the one(s) who made it. Take LTROI. The snow, the accents, the friendship, it's a beautiful movie. While I'm quite fond it you probably see more in it than I do. That makes you blessed. Yet no one has ever been counted as blessed because they looked at a painting and were unmoved.
