Germany Das Feuerzeug - English subtitles?

As a 7 year old kid in India in 1962 I saw a film called The Tinder Box, which was very good. i later learned that it was actually an English dubbed (east) German film Das Feuerzeug directed by Siegfried Hartmann. It is now available on DVD and Blu-ray but it is only in German audio. The information about English subtitles is not very clear but from it appears that the Blu-ray disc ( but not the DVD) has English subtitles.

Can anyone tell me if the blu-ray indeed has English subtitles?

I don't own the blu-ray, but I did some research on amazon.de and I found one customer review that says there are no subtitles on the disc. OFDb.de says the same.

The Blu Ray does indeed Feature no subtitles at all.

According to the ofdb this DVD-Edition (there are more than this one) features english subtitles - but don't own the disc myself...

I found this link that says that there ARE English subtitles. I don't know how reliable this is.

In that case it is unfortunately not reliable. I read quite a few customer reviews and they all state that unfortunately there are no subs there...

Here's a back-cover-scan:

Don't know the DVD-Edition stating to have some though...

But you may grab that UK-Release - it's a two-in-one, so "The singing, ringing Tree" is included too - but to my knowledge and in the description is stated that it features the german audio as well as the english dub, optional english subtitles...

No Blu Ray though, but reviews comparing DVD and Blu aren't that favourable towards the Blu anyways...

Thanks for that! I ordered that UK release DVD as soon as I saw your link. Bless you!

You are right about the German release though. I sent an e-mail direct to Ice Storm GmbH and the replied confirming that neither the DVD nor Blu-ray had English subtitles.

The UK release DVD arrived. Oddly enough, it was marketed by Ice Storm themselves. Both films have both facilities of original German dialogue with English subtitles (preferred) and English dubbed audio.

I am going to see The Tinder Box ( Das Feuerzeug) this afternoon for the first time in 51 years!
