Forgive me if this thread has been created already, or if it should be under a different section
What are some of your favorite movie soundtracks? I personally love all old music, but mainly rock and roll. A few off the top of my head would be: An American Werewolf in London School of Rock The Graduate Remember the Titans Ferris Buellers Day Off Ghostbusters Animal House The Blues Brothers - Rawhide!! OP has opened Pandora's Box lol.
Rocky 4: Hands down my favorite movie ost. I still get just as much of a charge listening to it today as I did at, I dunno, 2 years old? (I was born in '84, movie came out in '85, released on video in '86). I'll never forget the summer mornings when my parents would rent a beach house and I'd purposely get up early to run along the beach at 7-8 years old with the Rocky 4 ost playing in my head (didn't have a walkman at the time). True story: I have home movies of me on my 3rd birthday and my mom tells me to "do Rocky" and I start running in circles. I also have countless cover versions of "training montage" that other fans have done on their pianos and guitars, that I do in fact listen to when I workout, just to change it up. So glad they finally released Vince DiCola's full score for the 25th anniversary back in 2010. Transformers (1986): I could kick myself for not being into Transformers that much as a kid (I was a Ninja Turtles kid all the way). Had I known that the legendary Vince DiCola did the score to that film, and that it's essentially the same as Rocky 4's ost, you can bet that I'd have watched these 2 films back-to-back all the time growing up instead of watching Rocky 3 and 4 back-to-back. Unfortunately I never saw the movie until I was 21. Bloodsport: Another great score that I love listening to when I workout. Kickboxer: See above. Top Gun: Another one of my favorite movie ost's ever and I think it's a crime that Harold Faltermeyer's full score has never been released. And just to really kick ya in the balls, they released an "extended" soundtrack-score for the film's 20th anniversary and the only song they included was.....the sad music when Goose dies ![]() Legend: I have no love for the "Fantasy" genre at all, but this film's score is most of the reason I love this movie. Now, Jerry Goldsmith's original score fits so much better with the setting of the film, no doubt about it, but I'm an 80's nut, I love my synthesizers. Tangerine Dream all the way. 28 Days Later Swordfish Dawn of the Dead Day of the Dead Batman (1989): both Elfman's score, and Prince's songs. Superman 1 and 2 Ninja Turtles (1990) - Another great score that's never gotten a full release The Terminator - whoever made the 5.1 mix for the "special" edition of this film on dvd should be stabbed in the ears and forced to live the rest of their life without the ability to hear, as they certainly weren't using their sense of hearing when they mixed that transfer. Taxi Driver: one of my favorite movies ever. The score fits so well. Anyone ever heard the "disco" version of the score? Oh man, it would've dated the film so badly had Scorsese went with it. The Wild Life: OOP under-rated 80's teen comedy. Eddie Van Halen did the score. Most of the tracks would become full songs on the Hagar albums, including their biggest hit, "Right Now". Their newest album had one of the songs, "Blood and Fire". Fast Times & Ridgemont High Teen Wolf The Breakfast Club Weird Science Ferris Bueller's Day Off Maximum Overdrive The Wraith The Secret of My Success Spaceballs Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Hot Shots: Sylvestor Levay Btw, this list is only songs where I like the majority of the soundtrack. **Edit** Just remembered Hans Zimmer's score to Rain Man. As a kid, I'd watch the credits to the film to hear the credits score before I watched Top Gun (my mom had recorded them on the same tape). |
